IS THIS SALMONND FOR REAL /,,Fuckpig

just reading some of the posts just goes to show how this political point can divide so many,i for one hope he gets his mandate for a vote on indepandance so once and for all this silly notion can go away when its soundly beaten and he then has no future in our politics.as for the euro well you can fck that too another nightmare if you ask me.

I honestly believe even a No vote wouldn't be enough to shut them up CB, we already had a vote admittedly pre devolution but resounding enough. I think maybe they have got a bit big for there boots sitting in their new ivory tower.

With all due respect, and how much did that 'Ivory Tower' come over budget?

Top prize for Parliament building

The Scottish Parliament's cost of £431m was 10 times over budget

The Scottish Parliament building, which opened three years late and at £431m cost 10 times over budget, has won the Stirling Prize for architecture.
It beat five other contenders including a library and new factories built for BMW and the McLaren Formula One team.

The prize honours the building which has made the biggest contribution to British architecture in the past year.

Last year the £20,000 award was won by London's "Gherkin", which was designed by Lord Foster.

'Remarkable statement'

Foster and Partners had hoped to win the prize for the second year running for their design for the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking, Surrey.

The judges described the building, which houses laboratories, testing facilities and electronic workshops in a 50-acre site, as "breathtaking".

The judges have decided that Holyrood is not just a working legislature but a work of art

George Reid, Scottish Parliament's presiding officer

But they chose the "remarkable architectural statement" of the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh instead.
The building, designed by EMBT/RMJM Ltd, caused controversy because of its late opening and cost.

Its architect, the Spaniard Enric Miralles, died in July 2000, but his widow Benedetta Tagliabue attended the awards at the Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh.

The judges said the building "manifests itself as an attempt at an organic transition between the city and the drama of the Scottish countryside surrounding it" - an effect helped by its landscaping.

"The ability of both the design and construction teams to realise a building of this complexity is truly remarkable," they said.

The Scottish Parliament's Presiding Officer George Reid, speaking after the event, said the award honoured all those involved in the creation of the Parliament.

"The judges have decided that Holyrood is not just a working legislature but a work of art constructed on a world-heritage site where the history and land of Scotland fuse together," he said.

Shortlisted buildings

The Parliament was one of six buildings shortlisted for the award which recognises the building which has made the greatest contribution to British architecture in the past year.

Other contenders included the £8m Jubilee Library in Brighton, which had been the joint favourite with McLaren's headquarters.

Designed by Bennetts Associates with Lomax Cassidy, it was said to be "a civic building of importance".

The judges described its glass façade as "imposing, dissolving at night to expose the powerful library interior".

The second car factory among the shortlist was the BMW Central Building in Leipzig, Germany, designed by Zaha Hadid Architects.

The judges praised its "nice conceit of half-finished Beamers gliding above your head on elevated conveyor tracks, making their silent stately way between the body shop and the paint shop".

The Lewis Glucksman Gallery at University College, Cork, by O'Donnell + Tuomey was praised as "almost picturesque".

The sixth contender, the Fawood Children's Centre in Harlesden, north-west London, was designed by Alsop Design Ltd.

It was called a "fine example of the beneficial effects of good architecture".

Previous winners include the Gateshead Millennium Bridge and a multi-coloured London dance centre.

The prize is named after the architect Sir James Stirling, who died in 1992.

Why with all due respect? It was millions over budget, beams fell from the roof causing more money and the roof fecked up, it was also very late getting to completion but what big job didn't?

I don't really get your point Paddy but all the awards in the world does not make it worthwhile but on the other hand why shouldn't we have a parliament building we can be proud off which attracts millions of visitors every year?

paddy there was a slight mix up with the numbers in construction costs but am sure if you check the parlimentary records tommy sheridan had nowt to do with it lol.

haha, if you want a real scandal google Edinburgh Trams:eek:

imthinking of buying a season ticket for the edinburgh trams aom any news on completion.

salmond strikes me as being a little bit too happy about all this **** , this guy loves the attention , and the trouble he causes , more interested in puttin on fuckin tartan week in new york and posing with miss scotland , u want me to believe that this guy has scotlands interests at heart , their'll be a fuckin world government before scotlands independent , i dont want it to happen but the fun of seeing what a mess scotland will become will be fun , no shipyards, no mod work , no investment from any english firms , bring it on , the end is nigh

Aye there is, they are just waiting for another couple of million to test run the new foreign units while a perfectly good British supplier goes to the wall then after shutting down the city centre again the foreign builders will find another feck up and hit them for another couple of million and completion should just about coincide with the new fast link from London to Birmingham in 2035.

think i read something about that , london to birmingham , was it 25 million or something crazy , all to make journey times something like 45 minutes quicker , is it worth it?

news says 40% scots want it , 43% oppose a darling says how can you have a country that will not have power over its own monetary policy , theres too many aspects of this problem that have no clear resolutions

Never saw that one Jb but no doubt there will be a lot of these polls between now and then. It's certainly a lot closer than I would have liked to imagine if true but that will no doubt change monthly.

Heres hoping my vote is the one that frees us finally.

Not trying to stir the pot but here's something to think about.

A lot of scottish people rightly or wrongly bring up North Sea Oil as being the golden goose that is the only thing that the British government are interested in. This puts it into perspective....

Independent Scotland would have £270bn debt pile

Taxpayer Scotland, which is linked to the London-based Taxpayers' Alliance organisation, estimates Scotland's debt could be as high as £189bn, even before taking into account its share of the national debt.
Adding in Scotland's £80bn share of the UK's £940bn national debt suggests it might face a £269bn burden, costing more than £10bn in annual interest payments.
The report by Taxpayer Scotland warns that even with annual oil and gas revenues of £6bn, the country spends £9bn more every year than it generates in revenues.
"Scotland continues to practice Ponzi scheme government, with little sign of any understanding that this can only end in real problems for the public purse – especially if English beneficence is taken out of present balances and even if all oil revenues become Scotland's," said the report.
The Barnett formula hands 10p of every £1 the Government distributes to Scotland. To replace this money at present would require Scotland to borrow £7.5bn every year and Taxpayer Scotland says the country's annual deficit would be "much nearer" to 30pc of GDP than the 15pc calculated by the latest Government Expenditure and Revenue Scotland report.
