Opportunities in Canada

I work 2 and 1 but I'm going to another mine site next and doing a 3 and 1 during the summer you could work the shutdowns and then stay off until spring you can claim 400 clear from your employment insurance you pay into every time you get paid so its a good deal

Good luck mate, everybody needs that first rung on the ladder.

Last time.... as a scaff you have **** all chance of getting a WORK PERMIT...

there are other options available, but you cant come here as a scaffolder and work, if your wife has the needed work qualifications here then your ok, but it still takes a long time to get a visa.... yes it is great money out west, but you will live in crap conditions on a camp...i would recommend speaking to an immigretion consultant....

Heres a timeline, I'm a scaff, my wife got a job offer and it took us nearly 2 years to get here, then i had to do a 6 week course before could start work...

Hi, I would love to work there aswel I'm a Advanced Scaffolder with 20-years offshore & 24-years altogether, I live in Croatia & fly to the UK to go offshore for two-weeks on & two off, I would like to do one month on & one off or 8/4 My email is richiedry@yahoo.co.uk if you want to get in touch I'm happy to send my CV?.

hey mate. Well I am from Canada and work ot west quite frequently. Would be hard presses to find such a rotation, even IF ya could get access into Canada to work. If you d have work rights then your best bet would be to chase shutdowns.

In the mean time, I live in Sweden now and am looking for a gig somewhere offshore in the North Sea. Any leads or suggestions for me mate? I am a journeyman scaff outta Alberta Canada. Don't have any offshore certs to my credit. Is that something I should/must take upon myself to get or is it possible to have a company hire you and give it/ I guess the former yea? Anyway mate, be in touch.

Pretty sure the canadian scaff cards wouldn't count in the UK mate.. you would need CISRS to work in the north sea.... heard the boys are earning $4,000 a week out west... nice wage,

Aye ok, or the Norwegian "fagbrev" to work in Norwegian sector. And yea the same prob would hold true in Canada with regards to your tickets. Tho if ya worked with non-union companies they'd prob pay you jman rate straight away. Could challenge union exam too surely and get up to speed there as well. 4k a week... ahhhh that would be ULTIMATE BEST case scenerio. As i'm sure your aware, it would depend on the job you got on (meaning 10 or 12 hr shifts, rotations etc....) a 24 days on, and 4 days off is a common schedule for shutdown and that is where you can make like 3-3.5 k week clear. If you were talkin about gross wage earlier yes you are right 4k week attainable. But not clear, usually the foreman would make 4k, but not on tools. most ya can do is about 3600. Now if LOA (living out allowance) comes back within the next year or so LOOK OUT! depends on the area you are working but if you are working in Ft. Mcmurray area you get 200 dollars day tax FREE! tho u must live in town (high rent, price of EVERYTHING) and deal with the fuckin traffic going out the highway each day.... sometimes makes for LONG ASS DAYS! Non union companies in Sask i hear are paying well and can get decent rotations 2/2 etc. Look up a company called Breck. see what they doin.

Whats the money like in the North Sea then anyway mate? what you on a week?

I'm in NS mate working on an oil refinery, monies ok, here in NS you can't now challenge the union test, you now have to do the full 11 week course and the instructor passes you as J/M... 2nd 1st etc... money in North sea would be around $2.5-3k for the 2 week trip...

Ah yea seen that after I wrote the response it was you cassie. North Sea would be 2.5-3k Canadian dollars for the two weeks, not per week? Was thinkin it would be like 5-6k CAD for the two weeks.... O well grass is not always greener. And yea, you workin in NS. There is indeed big money out west! Just a heads up tho you prob already know, theres huge shutdown startin Jan/Feb at Suncor just north of Ft. Mac. should be like 3-4 months long, big money!

I was in North sea about 10 years ago mate and i took home around 2.5k canadian a 2 week trip, will have gone up obviously, but I wouldn't think by a fortune.. yeh, heard about the suncor gig.. dont fancy going out there though mate, unless it goes downhill in halifax, theres a fair bit going on in newfoundland aswell... how much you reckon the suncor shutdown would earn me in 3 month ??

Hi, i"m a scaffolder on the the alberta oil patch, things ARE good here. i work 9-5 at cenovus Christina lake project( as a first year i pulled in $70K CDN a year.) there's never enough workers and the federal government is getting in bed with china to fill the demand. No need to tell ye, this make makes workers out here cringe. please come! english as a first language people, who are familiar to a safety work environment are More than welcome. many plants are being built, but you also have the option to chase shutdowns, i believe those guys pull in $10 k a month roughly...but they work for it.

Poly cook we are looking at getting into Alberta partner Scaffolder Supervisor where would he look for work there? Has sent loads of CVs out in the last 2 weeks but haven't heard anything back it's really disheartening!!!

Hi there I'm interested in finding out more do you have an email address where I can contact you direct please

Hi I work offshore in the UK & you would make 4.500$ take home £2.800.
Can you get a Visa to come over for the chutt down's?

I'd say forget it boys for the Visa's. Fred, 70k as first year I would reckon is before tax! I know the gig hes talkin about, and would have to be gross for sure. Chasing the shutdowns is a good thing tho. lots cash, like someone said 10k + a month clear, but ya don't have a llot of days off and would be 12 hr days.

Cassie, it would all depend on whether you get on 10 or 12 hr shifts, and an 18 or 24 day rotation (18/3 or 24/4). If you hook one those rotations and get lots 12 hrs shift, should have no prob bankin' 30k +. Thats what I'll be gunning for fer sure. And yea hear Newf is goin alright, but dunno a lot. Funny tho, I am from Newfoundland but never scaffolded there. Money is in Alberta, thats where I'll be! Stay in the loop lads, stay safe!
