Which Association should I trust and follow?

Are you back from Barbados? Did you see SF Admin and Roger Nutkins or TheMaster on the beach?

I am, but unfortunately I didn't.

I did however meet Cilla Black in a restaurant and, believe it or not, play a round of golf with Bob Carolgees!

So if there are all these associations what has each association actually achieved?
I've seen the NASC mentioned
I've seen the LASC mentioned
I can see the SCCR mentioned on here.
Another in the north west
I have also heard of the scaffold association as well, hang on here I'm getting very confused. So who does what and what has each done in return?

When I did my courses I was always told the NASC. Lets look at each association and break it down in sections then things may become clearer.

1) how many members( do each association release this figure if not why?)
NASC and SCCR figures available on their websites, don't have any info on the others.

2) what is the AIMS of each association?
NASC to push out the smaller company and create a monopoly for its members with a very efficient PR machine that doesn't hesitate to stray from the truth.

SCCR Mission Statement

The S.C.C.R’s main mission is to represent the whole of the Scaffolding Industry. The main objective is to represent the working Scaffolder alongside the Employer. Too many divisions exist in the Industry at the moment.

We are going through a major change with the way we have to work & our representation is not as it should be.

Everyone deserves a voice, from small one man bands to major companies & from the hard working Scaffolder to the Design Company or Consumables Supplier.
One from the roots!

We aim to tackle issues in regards training, our guidelines, clarity on the way we work & getting recognised as skilled tradesmen.

An avenue has been opened with the HSE. This is the major step, we have been given the chance for regular meetings throughout the year to voice our concerns & have consultation on major changes to our Industry.

We aim to set up consultation with other governing bodies to progress our goals.

The aim in 2012 is to open a dialogue with the CISRS & the NASC. Working together to make our Industry strong again.

With the ultimate goal of being invited onto the ASITO & having our members recognised as viable contractors to be used in line with other trade bodies.

Stewart Quinney
Chairman

I can't tell you anything about the other two as I know very little about them.
Perhaps you should have directed these questions to the organisations direct not on a Forum they may not be members of.

3) what do the paying members get in return for there membership?( what's in it for me culture)
NASC : The opportunity to quote for Main Contractors that specify NASC only
SCCR and others : The opportunity to quote for Main Contractors that specify NASC only

4) benefits?
NASC : As above
SCCR : It's what you make it.

5) technical information?
NASC : Yes
SCCR : Yes

6) health and safety advice?
NASC : Yes
SCCR : Yes

7) training?
NASC : No
SCCR : No

8) disputes or concerns and do they get dealt with correctly?
What kind of disputes or concerns and with who?

9) continued personal development?
?

10) 24hr advice?
NASC : Don't think so
SCCR : No

11) why not just carry CHAS as a minimum?
Why not if you're happy with things the way they are?

The above is my own personal opinion and not the opinion of the SCCR (As you asked)

Are you and/or your employers/employees members of any of the above Rachet?

Which is probably a very good business to be in the way the UK is going. Surprised he left his business at Xmas which must be a peak period in the candle game. Imagine paying all that money for an all-inclusive in Barbados and having to end up playing golf with phil181. Bet Bob wishes he had stayed in Frodsham now!!!

Daniel Craig the actor lived there but moved away when he was 4.

Just heard from a showbiz insider that Bob Carolgees (not his real name) and Cilla Black (not her real name) were in Barbados to film a one off special of the hit television series Surprise Surprise. Apparently the set up was that a well known London scaffolding manager would think he had gone to Barbados for a quiet Xmas family holiday. Bob and Cilla would then bump into him in a bar and Bob would ask him to play a round of golf. The surprise would be that on the 18th green SF Admin, Roger Nutkins and Themaster would jump out and award him a coveted moderators badge. Hope I havent spoilt it for millions of viewers?

That's what I thought, much nicer than Leeds or Bradford.
