Training companies raping the industry!

Agree with you entirely gunslinger,as long as one person in the gang of three knows what he is doing the other two can be first class doughnuts. It seems it aint changed a lot since when i was at Bircham Newton in 1991.

Had a labourer say once that whatever we threw at him he would never be broken. he was though fairly quickly like all the rest. we used to run a book on who could get them to jack in the quickest time!!

SADIST , LOL , did u win a few quid then

As stated on last post,i was at Bircham in 1991 and Fairclough`s used to send all of their lads to get their tickets.Funny aint the word for it,they was all yellow jelly specialists. Most of them couldnt even stand a 21 up,they used to drag them along the floor rather than carry them on their shoulders, and dont get me started when they went into the hemping towers.

I humbly accept your challenge.

flinty you could try all day every day and youd have no chance as a lab a broke every lad that tried to break me at some point there was 1 scaffolder who would say am going to break you to day every time i worked with him i said and ill say it to you, youll break b4 me and when getting boared of him trying to break me weather the jobs been stripped was like a bag of chips and continuded to get worse and him laffen his heed off i could turn it on him even thow his 3 4 5 lifts up and he be then seen sitting on the ready lock legs round the standard pulling his hair out begging for driver to take him home :laugh:as a lab thats an achievment .

before brekkie was my record up in Swiss Cottage. Heard the lad is still labouring 20 years on.

Not condoning it in these modern politically correct days just stating how it used to be. tough men trained us and we became like them.

first point i don't agree on playing with people lively hoods isnt funny having said that you second point how it should be

Aye you're right I'm too laid back

thats what yan scaff said after he clicked on he would never do it his response is your very placid lol nothing bothers me at all i dont get mad i dont loose me rag just get on with it lol

Its a tough job when you start defo.. if you are on price work...you aint going to put up with some slack jawed faggot crying at the thought of a triple extention ladder.
if he dont break then he has prospects and everyone can earn
How times have changed over 25 yrs.
for the worse i think

Most my life working on target, slack hands cost you money!! You had to push them hard or not earn!!

Also slackness causes accidents, you have to drill some basics into guys sometimes or it doesn't stick. Over the last few years more accidents & scaffold collapses have crept into our game. Why?

Poor training & a slack attitude!!

If someone wasn't up to it they left, if they stuck around they usually turned out good.

As I said before not like that these days!!

Ragscaff

i cant slag the training ive had but everyone knows that you learn on the job
especially scaffolding.
regarding BEASTING yes thats the way i learned,it doesnt mean bullying.
if you cant work at speed and think on your feet get a job in asda.
to be a good scaffolder you have to be a good labourer.

Iv Never Had To Scream At Any Labourer Or Trainee, They Are As We All Were There To Learn, Not Be Screamed At. Iv Been Scaffolding Since 1978 And Am Still A Basic Scaffolder, Because The Companies I Worked For On The Books Only Put The Crawlers And Yes Men Through There Advanced Course, Some Of Them Only Put Yts (Remember That) Through Because They Didnt Pay For It, Shitpots The Lot Of Them.

your along time scaffolding Ger,34 yrs is a long time to be in the game.

speed does come into it, but todays trainees seem to lack the ability to "read the job". when I'm labouring (does happen sometimes, even to a man of my skill and wisdom!;-)!) the bloke I'm labouring for doens't have to ask for anything, it's there in my hand waiting for him to take it off me. all you get now is "what do you want next?" - you should fookin know what I want. they pass you ledgers before the doubles are on, trannies before they have given you the clips - I asked a kid for doubles the other day and he come back with 1 - WTF!!!! i as scaffolding is a lot more about rules and regs now, you should have a proper apprenticeship where the kids go to college one day a week like chippes and brickies do!

Its A Long Time Johnny, But Im Still Learning Something New Every Day Mate, Thats One Of The Many Things I Still Love About This Job.

These training courses churning out incompetency. Everyone knows what an advanced scaff is. In other words the creme de creme. Advanced coming out of these courses now seem to have less knowledge than seasoned labs.

Sometimes Fred I Dont Think ItsThe Training, Its The Individual. Some Of The Young Scaffolders I Meet Dont Have The Same Level Of Awareness That You Would Expect From An Advanced Scaffolder. I Stress Some Because Some Iv Met Have Been Really Good Scaffolders, So Its Difficult To Judge.

All the CISRS card states is that the person has been trained and Assessed. Know it is up to the person to gain his knowledge and respect, bottom line you only get paid for what you can do what every you card states.

can't agree with you more gers have had my moments with few guys but as for that daft shouting lark gets nobody anywhere, got one just now who loves to bawl at the lads but when we appear he goes into his shell and is as nice as pie strange that.

Iv Met A Good Few Like That Mate, What Is It They Say An Empty Vessel And All That. Part Of My Job As A Scaffolder Is To Train A Labourer Or Trainee To An Acceptable Standard, So He/She May Be Deemed Competent Enough To Take There Training To The Next Level, Not Ever To Be My Gopher.

I hear you Gers and instructor, but are you saying sell someone a ticket and learn about it later.Does that not devalue the experienced men in the game for years.
And yes some of these young ones ive met know their stuff.
