Regulation, an aid for scaffold safety

S.C.C.R. Mission Statement 2011

The S.C.C.R’s main mission is to represent the whole of the Scaffolding Industry. The main objective is to represent the working Scaffolder alongside the Employer. Too many divisions exist in the Industry at the moment.

We are going through a major change with the way we have to work & our representation is not as it should be.

Everyone deserves a voice, from small one man bands to major companies & from the hard working Scaffolder to the Design Company or Consumables Supplier.

One from the roots!

We aim to tackle issues in regards training, our guidelines, clarity on the way we work & getting recognised as skilled tradesmen.

An avenue has been opened with the HSE. This is the major step, we have been given the chance for regular meetings throughout the year to voice our concerns & have consultation on major changes to our Industry.

We aim to set up consultation with government bodies to progress our goals & to get included as an Industry Body.

The aim in 2011 is to open a dialogue with the CITB, CISRS & the NASC. Working together to make our Industry strong again.

With the ultimate goal of being invited onto the CIJC.

there was 11 falls from scaffold last year involving a scaffolder, 2 were from a height of more than 4 mtrs,
8 were from height of less than 4 mtrs
1 fall was from unknown height by scaffolder who was clipped on and his fall arrested

I would say not a bad average for a high risk activity if that's our industry as a whole.

In my meetings with the HSE I was told two deaths in five years involving scaffolders carrying out there duties!!

I do not see any point wearing a harness three lifts & below.

Work to SG4 05 progressing the lift as you go round a job is the safest way I have ever worked.

Not only as a safety aspect but also you can work correctly in respect of carrying & handling equipment without standing on a step.

The only thing I want to stand on is a bar stool on a Friday night celebrating another week over:)

I used to enjoy scaffolding :sad2:

They are, what i believe is a/or the starting of a Scaffolders Union, made by Scaffolders, for Scaffolders.

They, when they get enough support will hopefully push through and get regulations and legislations that benefit us, instead of hindering us, like most of the others do.

Hopefully, we'll be able to have a voice in the Construction Industry and an opinion on how we're made to work and how much money we should be paid.

Andy would be a better person to explain it, tbh.

Most of the above is correct. The only thing that is not our intention is to become a Union. The membership is made up of Individuals as well as companies. Also any associate members are welcome.

Things have been a bit quite due to work load & new family but I will pull my finger out over the next few weeks.

where are the investigation reports and that do the investigation reports cite as precursors what are the recommendations to eliminate or at the least reduce recurrences ?, lets get the dirty washing out on the line for all to see

I did say that a few months back and to be honest the clamber for stair treads have already started here but Ken Cain assures me I am wide of the mark but I still have my suspicions.

cant buy haki staircases from anywhere, all gone.. surely that tells you the way its going !!

Apparently Staircases are the access and egress of choice for most sites now.
Unless ofcourse you cant fit a staircase and have to use a ladder...

Which in turn means Scaffolding will cost more and we'll all need System Staircase training also.

Sure Staircases are safer and easier to carry your tools, to and fro' a job, but they just aint practical.

Imo.

scaffolders spend most of there working life off the ground as we know,to us it is safe or we would not do it. then somebody who spends most of his time in an office cums up with an idea that we should this or that.to make our lifes harder leave us alone.we are men not kids doing a mans job let us get on with it

Years ago in the GOOD OLD DAYS it was single handrail, and when erecting you could get away with 2 boards wide, bombing was also allowed, whilst working in Lochee just outside Dundee for Mills we were working on a Crudens site behind the Timex factory and they [Crudens] would rope of an area and bring in tipper loads of sand for us to bomb into, once a section was dismantled they would shovel it back onto wagons and transport it to the next area ready for us to bomb again to our hearts content BRILLIANT DAYS :cool:

You bloody slasher! :toung:
Lol.

Yes, i think that certain people (Health and Safety) need to give us a bit of common sense back.

Is bombing dangerous if some random numpty does it?
Ofcourse...

Is bombing dangerous if a Scaffolder does it?
Not really, unless they are a total bonehead and if they are, they will be at the bottom picking the shiit up out of the sand.

Its a hard job, a mans job.
Lets not make it any harder with well, well over the top rules, written by people who have never picked up a screw-driver, let alone a spanner.

"Controlled Bombing" is a well kent phrase round here.:noworry:
