Kick a dog too many times and it'll Bite ya...

oh please stop...now youre saying a man can't top a poxy 8 foot off a step...a good scaff knows his capability...8 foot?????

What happens to the design with all the extra joints. Do you have to start splicing them as well because it must be a weaker scaffold! Then if you do splice more to catch your harness on!

Advanced tunnel with the tube you have always used its a no brainer :amuse:

Quote from David Lavery

"I relise you boys on the streets wont have the same opinion!"

You hit the nail on the head.

Our Industry is made up of four sectors.

Domestic
Industrial
Specialist
Offshore

They should be treated differently & our training system is not good enough.

Advanced should be a minimum of 5 years with set on site experience.

After all we are an un- seen skilled force that needs to be recognised for that

I'm sure alot of the firms realise you need qualifications to get on site then you need the experienced scaff to erect the jobs in a safe manner.

Last week i was asked simple questions like how do i staff this lift off and how high am i doing this second lift? From a part2 scaff been doing it two years!

You should have hit him with the staff and told him to fukc off, unbelievable

unfortunately times change, i would have been hit with a double and made to graft my rocks off all day and the boss would have been told!

now they are constantly on their phones and dont know what hard work is!

a scaff used to be a scaff cos he could graft and new how to put up a job without a design no matter what shape or size, i was lucky i had an old boy who showed me a hell of a lot cos of the jobs we where doing, most second spanners i have worked with these days are house bashing three sided houses and cant do an internal corner let alone anything testing!

i concur with all of the above lads, but what seems to be popping up more regular is these mobile phones.i have to hold my hand up as i take one or calls a day regular at work but do you think its time to leave them off site due to the abuse of them by some lads being on em all day or is the current model working ok???

yes tomp your right mate how things have changed.

When we we're working for Wardens only the lead scaff was allowed one on site during working hours. At the time that was me, a lot of the lads didn't agree with it but that was the way it had to be. with the site break times they didn't have a phone from 8:30-10:00, 10:15-12:00, 1:00-2:30 and 2:45-4:00, some of the lads we're proper whinein about it aswell, if one of the lads had a problem like there kiddie was ill or we're expecting a call, id just let them keep it or check them in between the breaks, as they we're getting stuff off the wagon. but back then everyone knew the footage had to go in now its more of well i'll play on the phone and you get the gear and put the footage in.

its a case of let the supervisor know why you cant get the footage in your supposed to anymore cos of the phone thing. Usually the ones who play on the phone cant do anything anyway so when theyre being watched they dont know what to do or are always asking; easy way to get caught out by management!

i think phones should be banned they are not needed on the job , we all managed quite well before we had them , plus the old woman knows where you are all the fuc*ing time , i forgot mine the other day and you know what it felt great, think i might start leaving it at home a bit more :)

90% of the jobs im on your phones left in the house it just cuts out all the distractions,iv never found this a problem.

Is a guidline law?......

.
As good as, for the simple reason, there have been a number of scaffolders issued with prohibition orders for not working to SG4:05 guidelines. If you can't offer a reasonable explanation for not working to the guidelines you can expect to be prosecuted.
