just looked at the ecitb 1.606 views and 100 repllies.weve either got spys not mentioning
names .or we got a load of shy ecitb lads to shy to make a post.come on lads its your
career.if i can make a post anybody can give our man ragscaff some support.

I think its 6 of one, and half a dozen of the other.

There will be always, a conflict of interests, however, with this forum. We all sing from the same hymn sheet, concerning members concerns.

On the other side of the coin, we do not know, the guests viewing. This could be a double edged sword.

1) they will if in their current capacity, realise 'stormy waters are a brewing" and could adopt a Pro-active approach, to resolve any issues that could bring bad publicity, to their current Organisation/Training providership.

2) This could be Scaffolders, that would like more, be with the rest, or are just going to sit on the fence, waiting for a Re-active approach.


I have nailed my colours to the mast, from day 1. i do not use a 'Non de plume', but i respect those that wish to do so, ( I understand why).

This SF has now nearly 2000 members, from every entrail of the scaffolding industry. All i say guys, is we use it, or lose it.

I know the content of my last e-mail was quite detailed & may take you a while to answer but whilst waiting for that reply could you please answer the following question from one of our members?

“I have heard that in the latest edition of the blue book there is provision in there that if you have held the ECITB ticket for 15 years and have a checkable work history you can send the ticket and information to CIRS they will issue a card at that grade. Can anyone shed any light on this please?

just found letter for ecitb scaffolders ticket dated 3.8.07.it says in black and white that
this card is valid untill 31.12.10....THE ECITB DATA BASE RECORDS WILL BE AMENDED
SO THAT WE CAN RESPOND ACORDINGLY TO ENQUIRES FROM COMPANIES.

To answer your question: The CISRS, want all the bonny marbles, they think they are the Do all and End all of any scaffolding operation, and think they are the Dogs dangly bits regarding Training.

Once Ragscaff has the SCCR up and running ( I am up for Committee membership) things could and will be changed with the backing of the Members of the SF.

In relation to the question below there is no agreement in place to transfer ECITB cards for CISRS cards irrelevant of how long they have been held. The only way to achieve a CISRS card is to complete the requisite training at an approved training centre, achieve the NVQ and pass the H&S test.

yeah think its the way forward ragscaff.i havent had reply this end yet m8.if the cisrs is so inportant.than exsperience.they can fu.k.ng.paye for us ecitb lads why should i and all the others loose money and use our annual holidays.to train as scaffolders when weve
been payed as scaffolders for the last 2 and half decades.were just keep our exsperience
and ecitb tickets keep ya cisrs cos soon job vacancies will say ecitb.cisrs scope.il put
money on it.

"Dear Mr Edwards,

I am writing to you on behalf of our members who have ECITB scaffolders cards.

The organisation I represent is called the S.C.C.R. We work through a forum called the scaffolderforum & have just under 2000 members.

We have been made aware that the ECITB scaffolders card are being removed in December 2010, but we have cases now where scaffolders are not being allowed on site with these cards.

I know that there is a large amount of these scaffolders who have been in the Industry for over 15 years! They are now being asked to start their training for CISRS from a trainee stage. This must be wrong! Your members with that amount of skill not being allowed to transfer to the new scheme at the equivalent level! At least they should have been offered the chance to do the NVQ section & assessment at their level not start from scratch.

Would welcome your comments.

interesting thread i think it was roughly 1976 scaffolders cards were introduced {although there was a predecessor just an official looking piece of paper saying you were a scaffolder}i was working for FWM scaffolding out of east london the citb wote to all the companies and gave them a criteria for thier guys to apply for a citb card wich some scaffs followed up and got issued a card free of charge and courtesy of the company you worked for althuogh not tied to said company .a lot of the old school set in there ways thought it would never catch on although eventually many years later it did dec 2008 i still had my old 1976 avanced scaffs citb card i contacted citb kings lynn and they sent me a new card number .i then had to sit the cisrs touch screen course and on passing i was issued [at a cost ] with a new cisrs card gold ,[gives your age away just like a NYPD gold badge] i hope this may have been of some help.

fact 1 / the reason scaffolding was never an apprenticed trade because there was never a long lasting end product it has always been classed as a semi-skilled trade so remember that the next time your swinging by your ******** off a hanger

Try explaining to him you need written replies so there are no misunderstandings as regards the answers to the question's you are putting on behalf of the forum members.That you are willing to accept replies as emails or if he prefers in the form of a normal letter.

I would also point out that you are recieving no payment for your time and expense and that he does recieve a salary and disbursments to administer the scheme

That little acorn has certainly taken route and with a little naturing it will one day be a mighty oak

This subject has over 1800 hits on our site & is very important to us. What is going to be changed next.. Advanced cards!! Inspection Cards!!

Times are very hard scaffolders cannot afford to keep shelling out.

Just goes to show that its all about the money. As I have said 22 years ECITB ticket done my part 1 CIRS ticket a few weeks ago at the cost of £945. The instructor asked me if 2 people could sit either side of me for the final exam as they had no clue. One could not read or write a basic requirement for the course, 2 had never touched a spanner in their lives and could not complete the solo projects to an acceptable standard, another requirement for the course, so 3 out of the 9 should not have even been on the course!!! Even so they still walked away with the same qualification as me.... How can this be good for the industry????
 
This needs forwarding to NASC for answers.. as teachers we always have to give possitive feedback.. we are not allowed to say your f***in crap .. and kick them off the course.. ITS WRONG.....
They cover there arses by saying a part 1 is an introduction to th erection of basic scaffolds....TOTAL JOKE....
 
Had a meeting with a NVQ Assessor on Monday, yes guys the rumour is right.

If by 2012, you do not have a NVQ on your CISRS card, when your card expires and you send it for renewal, they will not issue you with another one.

So the experienced Scaffs who got cards with Grandfather rights have been shafted as well guys:mad:
