Bis Shetlands!

Don't imagine there'd be an abundance of scaffolders on the Shetland Islands all the same.
 
Hang on Burger and chips ,

Can't an employer employ who he likes ?

If the company choose to employ men from afar then surely that's their right,
Why should they employ local labour only ,
Especially if the local labour ain't up to standard they require ,
In fact it must cost them more to employ men travelling with this digs thing

Exactly. It's a free market economy. Anyone is free to move and sell their labour anywhere without restriction, not just in the UK but within the EU. That's what p1sses me off about all the moaning about foreign workers. Nobody moans when there's good money to be made for British scaffs abroad. Hypocrites!
As I said, how many scaffolders do you think there are in the Shetlands? I'm Scottish but believe you me, the Shetland isles are not local to me.
 
Correct me if Iam wrong ,
But surley the Shetland isles is mostly farmers and Fishermen ,
There is obviously some scaffolders there and probably some very good lads,

So sorry if it sounds harsh but if I need 50 good men then that's what I will employ no matter if they are local or not
 
It doesn't take 'Rumpole of the Bailey' to deduce that on a collection of islands with little more than green pasture and crofter's one or two storey dwellings, there's little demand for scaffolders as a trade.
 
So are we to deduce my lernered college that the Ises of Bonny Scotland maybe don't produce the best scaffolders as the Crofts are only 2 storeys high ,
And therefore the lads have less experience ?
 
On the islands, maybe. But in the second city of the empire, i.e. Glasgow, there are many skilled tradesmen as I'm sure happy will *concur. ;)

*that means agreed for the uninitiated. ;)

Second city? Of what Scotland or the UK? If the UK I'm sure the hibs n hearts fans might have ago at the weegies lol

Nope always found them pleasant to work and Drink with sure the feelings mutual :)

Who where top boys in our game , mad as feck but great characters
And first class scaffolders

The second city of the British empire wee man! Where do you think all the fine naval vessels of our proud island nation were assembled? In the dock yards of Govan, on the Clyde. Don't you ever forget it. Her majesty herself gave Glasgow this mantle.

I do agree with you though chief, wholeheartedly. There's a plethora of 'scaffolders' in Scotland that've only ever worked with yellow jelly and quite frankly, they've no business calling themselves scaffolders.
