This ad arrived in my inbox this morning - unfortunatly it is too far away for me as a permanent workplace.

The advert is through 'The Guardian' from STEP ENTERPRISE of Nottingham Tele: 08708500322.

I have no further info other than this below (I Think it should be £217.00per Day - needs to be checked):-

An exciting opportunity has come for a Quantity Surveyor Intern at a leading scaffolding supplier in South London.

Confusing, but £230 - £300 per day is the current going Day-rate for a London QS

I would guess it is a freelance position as there is no mention of car, pension, exes, or any other of the trimmings we might be used to.
The job description leaves nothing out and would, on face value, need a full time involvement to adequatly complete the tasks required.

Sounds like an apprenticeship, if the £217 pw is correct, that puts the applicant on minimum wage.

Good job for someone if its 217 a day, bad job if its 217 in London, even for someone out of college, it's below the living wage for London.

Just phoned to ask the question, they're looking for a student or graduate, with experience, the job offers training, possibly college. Bad wage for London in my eyes. But could suit a graduate/gap year .looking for training, getting a foot in the door and experience

It clearly states that it's an internship, which is a trainee position.

It will be £217.00/week as stated.

Absolute **** take of a job offer. Hopefully nobody is stupid enough to do it. Less than £50 a day working in London after getting a degree. Better off on the dole

Just got back from the coast after an afternoon walking the beach with my wife and amazed at the interest shown on this post.
I would say that I recieve daily information on the QS job market and there is a pletherer of qs vacancies out there at the moment. A fair portion for newly graduated BSc's at between £25-35K pa. With this in mind my recommendation to anyone looking at this job is to carry on looking - £217.00 per week can be bettered at least 4 fold now, today.

Graduates actually get a pretty bad deal nowadays.

The internship thing has become very common place, offering graduates "work experience" with no promise of a job at the end of the period, which can be anything from a month to 3 to 6 to a year...

BUT because it has become almost a rite of passage, graduates have to do it - often working for just bus money (my daughter did this for 9 months or so)...

I recall something in the press questioning the legality of it - afterall, they are being "used" as employees - they have to turn up every day, at specified times, all of which constitutes employment. However, no graduate/ intern is going to query it because they gain the very valuable "work experience". Vicious cycle...

So a QS intern on £217pw might be pants but it's the work experience that's desirable.

As for Croydon being a nowhere place - d'ya mind!!! Cheeky devil!
