An exciting opportunity has come for a Quantity Surveyor Intern at a leading scaffolding supplier in South London.
The Company
We were started in 1995 and provide access, protection and support scaffolding for a range of infrastructure, building and refurbishment projects. We are an approved supplier for a number of large organisations including Network Rail, London Underground, Carillion and Thames Water. In addition we do a significant amount of work for the power industry; providing scaffolding services for work carried out on electricity substations and power transmission lines. Other large clients include Heathrow and Gatwick Airports, Balfour Beatty and Wates.
The Role
The purpose of the job is to manage contract accounts through to completion including valuations, payments, variations, forecasts and contractual correspondence; maximising income and profitability.
The successful applicant will work as part of the Industrial Division reporting to the Divisional Manager. Your primary responsibility will initially be the commercial management of a framework agreement with Thames Water, ensuring that the business maximises income and receives payment in a timely manner. Thereafter you will also assist with QS responsibilities for two other divisions (Rail & Townworks and Power). This work will be supervised by the Senior Quantity Surveyor.
Key responsibilities
• To support the Contracts Manager (Industrial Division) with the successful commercial management of the Thames Water Framework agreement.
• Assist with the background preparatory work Rail & Townworks and Power Divisions.
For jobs under the responsibility of the job holder, this will involve:
• Checking and evaluating the information (paperwork) received from sites;
• Extracting the appropriate detail to enable valuation of works;
• Cross reference information to original quote; identifying any additional works or variations.
• Measurement and evaluation of additional works.
• Ensure appropriate paperwork trail exists for both quoted and additional works and variations.
• Produce costings for works completed; preparing application sheets to support the applications for payment and ensuring that applications are submitted promptly and accurately.
• Conduct site visits as required to obtain progress updates and carry out site measures.
• Liaise regularly with operational personnel: providing support with variations and contract changes and, where necessary, chasing for necessary paperwork (e.g. daily allocation sheets, variation orders, handover certificates).
• Accurately report the status of each job on a monthly basis, including any financial movement in the month, any agreements made, variations issued or any problematic areas etc.
• Contribute to the preparation of 12 month trading forecasts.
• Contribute to the credit control process; attending weekly meetings, following up partial payments in order to establish reasons and take corrective action.
• You will be required to submit valuations, assist with disputes and variations.
• Review terms and conditions / orders.
• Assist with the preparation / details of tenders.
• Maintain accurate records, including payment certificates, retention and contract documents.
The Candidate
You will be a graduate with a qualification in Quantitative Surveying. You must also demonstrate the following:
Criteria
• Qualified to degree level or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying.
• IT literate, particularly MS Word and Excel.
• Strong organisational skills
• Team player
• Ability to communicate at all levels, both verbally and in writing.
• Good attention to detail
• Outstanding numerical skills
• Working knowledge of SAGE Construct
• Driving licence
The intern will be paid £217 a week, exempt from tax and NI.
