I Bed Room Apartment Flat all bills ( does not include Land Tel Line )

Monthly Bonus based on site performance

Leave rota 8/3

Overtime worked will be payed in cash at site each month @ pro-rata of monthly rate...

The Cape-East Spanner Hand remuneration package does not come close, but its been swings and roundabouts during my Career Path---one Project you got the shout and other your back on the Elsie Tanners---nature of the Game---its all the same to me ACE OF SPADES ---just thought Id top up my tan ;)...

I know exactly what you are saying Garry.
It would be like me saying on my last job I got 10,000 pounds a month after tax, plus 10% of base salary superannuation, free 4 bedroom house with pool, all utilities paid, free car and fuel, international and domestic flights AND unless I get the same again I wont work again. Of course if I have to support my family I would get a start with AOM for a tenner an hour and sleep in his yard if I had to.

It's the nature of the beast---one has to learn to find the positive out of the negative, one has to identify and then culture the positive's to one's own advantage...

You are well placed to advise on the Region that the mad dogs of Arzew are about to enter, therefore, any advice that you may feel disposed to give will be thankfully received and faithfully applied...

Ok guys if you think I’m a knob for tellin you the truths then it u that’s got the problem – but as gary has asked ….i’m sure that u’ve all googled the place ur going but The country is massive you cant really comprehend the diverse cultures in it but its got a very heavy French influence in the north …and much more arabic/African in the south-The first 9months I spent living in a ISO At the other end of the n1 (Trans sahara highway) on the southern fields where there is a massive project called Gour Mohmoud. It was really basic living condtions with constant security issues working to a 6-2 most down time was spent up in the med with regular helilifts back up to main civilization-like most sites they’re dry and fag free zones – theres only so much you can take due to the heat and conditions although the ISOs do have aircon, but it’s a bit like bein in the army…..not like the films lolo – 12 of us flew back up to skikda towards the end of the 12 month contract to work on the rebuild and expansion of the new dehydration train – although in civilization this shiiit hole brought its own concerns both in personal and company safty-( a few years b4 the whole place blew up), the locals love your dollars but don’t like you, so forget about getting a taxi down to the local bazzar or KFC- recent years have seen a anti western attitude which was bad back then anyway but had got progressively worse through the terrosist threats – but its not these type of things you worry about it’s the snatching that happen quite regularly- normally with the hope of holdin you for ransom, but its not unusual to be sold over to alkal for a quick short back and sides,
Where you are going is quite westerly of where I was and If you are living outside of the works compound you should have a security detail minibusing you to site, don’t be complacent with your observations and tell these guys of any concerns….becos of the closeness of the med and the diverse cosmopolitan culture you can be lured into a false sense of security however this isn’t a boyz holiday next to Iraq I would say its proberbly up there as one of the most dangerous places for westerners to work. within the first week we were settling in word hit the grapevine that a supervisor (I think he was French) while on a jolly down town had been kidnapped and was later slotted- becos every one was to fearfull to go out at all, and with very little to do (unlike some of the big American backed sites that av excellent welfare facilities) petty theft and in house fighting was inevitable and caused 6 guys to go ome on there next rotation .
Advise would be weather goes from one extreme to another so take wet gear at the same time as ur gigs and suncream- if living outside of a secure compound, stay in as a group and keep low profile.do not flash the cash around ,and at all times keep vigilant. Have a prearranged area to emergency locate to and always keep your passport /docts and cash with you cos you never know when u may need to do a bunk …some guys may think this post is over the top or not beleave that its really like this, but like I said b4 these jobs arnt normally filled via a networking site like this
At the end of my 12 months contract I was offered to go back to the southern field or relocate to iraq but with a pocket full of dollars (over $250k and a good sun tan I had achived my goal to earn enough to buy a house - which was the point I tried to make in the very beginning- yes it could be a good crack and everyone is excited about goin but the package has to be good to do it

Would I go again…..not a fuuuccking chance

I dont care if fred Bloggs earned £1 million a week in where ever... I myself are very much looking forward to the experience of working away in another country.

I also feel i can speak for the other 5 of us going out there.
We all know the risks - hell Scaffolding IS RISKY... but we all here, all 10,000+ of us on this Forum get up every day and do our jobs.

I cant wait to get out there and experience it.
Neither can the rest of us. :)

Your in good company Jason and with a bit of awareness you will be fine, enjoy it matey.

Yes enjoy it Jason.
By the way only 9,999 of us on the forum get up and do our jobs. I just get up and laze under coconut palm trees. Which of course has its own dangers. Unbelievable how many people here are killed and seriously hurt by falling coconuts. Hard sunhat needed!!

A Diary of Numbers: Death By Coconut

There you go. Algeria will be a walk in the park compared to the dangers I have to deal with out here.
