3 times this year i was made to believe i had a deffo start with alpha scaffs. 3 times on the shortlist. 3 times on standby list and 3 times ended up with fukall! told myself after the 2nd time i wouldnt entertain them any more. out of work and getting desperate they rang me again shortlisted me for ferry, said your advanced you know the station, you no the crack witb station work. your inducted looking like the job is yours and then.....NOTHING AGAIN
 
Sorry to hear that Scunnyscaff. Not entirely unusual for this type of work though. Hope you get lucky soon.

Hi mate i know how you feel but i really think its just one of them things thats happened to us all at one time or another mate i dont think its personal iv rang them loads like every week and had the same but fortunatley i managed to get on this time better look in the future mate
 
agencies are all ****.there robbing scum that know what a days work is if every one boycott the ******* you might get full time jobs again the lying *******

You prob just fcuked it with alpha now with this thread bit of advice mate try not to burn your bridges these thing happen I'm sorry to say but I wish you luck I'm in the same boat :)

I get lied to and stitched up on at least a weekly basis, and I'm straight up with people, don't take the piss with wages, get everybody paid right and on time... (even the letdowns). I agree there are probably quite a few agencies out there that won't stick to their word (believe me, there's been times when I've been tempted), but I've always stuck to mine and get quite narked that when I'm consistently offering decent work, with clients paying a premium for 'quality' labour, and I get stitched up as if I were paying £12/hr for a part 2. What people don't realise is the knock-on effect this has, but don't start complaining when my clients go elsewhere and you're seeing more and more bad rates with other agencies with less integrity as a result.

I Agree With You Dom, There Are Some Agencies Out There That Will Quite Shamelessly Rip Men Off, But Not All I, Have In The Past Worked For Good And Bad Agencies More Good Than Bad Thankfully, And Being Honest Ill Work For Them Again, In This Climate When The Construction Industry Is On Its Arse No Work Is Bad Work.

Interesting to read comments like this Scunny - we had 9 vacancies starting today but the main contractor chose the lads he wanted from a list. Most of the lads have previously worked on the site and were already inducted.

The only time we don't use lads for positions is if you've let us down in the past, you have poor references or you don't have the right qualifications. The job at Ferrybridge has only started today and there is talk of upping the manning levels for next week. We take instruction from our clients who to send and not to send - as you can appreciate the scaffolding world is quite close knit so the supervisor might not want a certain person on site.

If your the scaffolder I think you are, you have been short-listed, but comments like this don't help mate. We are preferred suppliers to some of the regions leading scaffolding companies and pay the going rates and overtime etc.. We may still require your services and we certainly don't promise work to people if you haven't been selected.

im quite sure if the lads are doing the work and working overtime then it seems only right you renumerate them with the "going" rates and overtime for which they have toiled for,remember alpha take away the willing scaffolder and you have no buisness.
 
i just think the phone calls can be missleading. i would rather be told theres a chance of u getin a job than its looking like u wil get the job. im not on here to burn bridges. i just dont like my hopes getting built up thinking everythings gonna b ok for a while then hear nothings. sorry to offend anyone.
