alpha scaffs what a joke !

I get lied to and stitched up on at least a weekly basis, and I'm straight up with people, don't take the piss with wages, get everybody paid right and on time... (even the letdowns). I agree there are probably quite a few agencies out there that won't stick to their word (believe me, there's been times when I've been tempted), but I've always stuck to mine and get quite narked that when I'm consistently offering decent work, with clients paying a premium for 'quality' labour, and I get stitched up as if I were paying £12/hr for a part 2. What people don't realise is the knock-on effect this has, but don't start complaining when my clients go elsewhere and you're seeing more and more bad rates with other agencies with less integrity as a result.

Thats your problem,my problem is i will never work for any agency.

as ive always sed vanleedlndnboy,thes always barber collage!!!!!!..........we get loads of wolfs down my manner but all we do in deep south is take a riffle to um!!!!!!! {macho i no}

Not having a pop at agencies (although one I have dealt with were a complete p/ss take) but I do find it worrying so much of the work is through them now?

Seems to be a big culture of using agencies now, i'm sure a lot of it is so people can be used / ripped off and nobody has to take liability.

Joel Thats Exactly The Reason, No Insurance No Tax No Holiday Pay No Sick Pay (Whats The Common Denominator The Word No)

totally rite gents!! but u have to agree that scaffolding has bin on the down hill for a wile and i mean in every way posible and it aint gunner get better,im not mr "doom and gloom" ,but!! i think the days when men stayed with firms for long periods are long gone and thats a massive factor in the game rite now,to many stray sheep not noing wot to do and where to go.

Rob, I Worked Through Thatchers Time When Everybody Moved Around, Cause That Was The Way You Got Through A Recesion Now We Are Back In Recesion There Are More Agencies Not To Rip Boys Off But It Comes Down To The Mighty Shekel Whoever Is Cheapest Will Win The Work.

Before my time scaffolding I had never worked for angency. For the majority in the roofing industry there's no such thing as a job on the books. We HAD to subcontract or starve! This also means supplying everything yourself van, tools, plant & PPE all on price work so if your not knocking nails in your not earning. You pay your 20% tax & claim the what you can back at the end of the tax year.
Working for these scaffolding agencies is a fecking holiday compared to that.
You turn up with a set of spanners & occasionally a harness as long as you do the hours you know what you will walk away with at the end of the day regardless of production. Sure some will rip you off but who in the construction industry hasn't?
Another thing with the agencies, you can claim your expenses on a weekly basis meaning you can actually be earning more than the directly employed men.
I was recently offered a job ' on the books ' for £88 per day before tax & insurance as a part 2 driving the 7.5 tonner as supposed to the £150+ per day I'm making with the angency. Now who's taking the piss & killing this game???

88per day!!!!!!!! wer the fuk was that????? im on about stabilaty, not getn as much doller as u can and traveling god nos where u get told to.

alpha who never heard of them like 99% of scaffs ,just say no to agencies its easy its up to you lads .

Don't matter if you're subbing or PAYE your still gone get the shove when the jobs done. I regularly work for the so called 'big firms' on the industrial jobs & with the exception of the selected few, when the jobs done so are you. In this current climate there's no such thing as stability. The point that people seem to miss when having a go at agencies is, they aren't the main contractors nor do they price the work up. It's the scaffolding companies who go to the agencies in the first place who are to blame.
Currently it's generally the agencies who are the only ones advertising the kind of work/rates I usually do & untill that changes what are we supposed to do, stop at home & starve or work for some tin pot local firm for peanuts?
The £88 per day was for a local company who have 4 branches throughout my area. I know they charge top dollar for their services but take the piss with the wages. The non wagon drivers are only on £76 per day. Their excuse, you can top your money off with working tax credits!!!!
Personally I'd rather travell to the ends of the earth & work for whoever allows me to pay my own way than burden society even more working for sh*t bags like this!!!
