Haha cheers mate, been on holiday to Dubai out of that lot but that's it. Thailand for my honeymoon next year though.

On a serious note though, guys, for those that do globe trot for work - apart from the fact that it's work, do you enjoy the being "away from home" so much? If you have partners, do you take them with you?

How long do you generally stay in one place? I can see the lure of this type of lifestyle in some respects, but it must be very tough also?

Not much of an overseas traveler, liked my home comforts too much, friends and family and sleeping with our lass, making babies

Worked all over the UK at times, usually home Friday(flyer) night for the week-end, leave early Monday morning to be back on site, you could push it to 10/11am on most jobs, Depending on distance from home. Some jobs I did you were away for 4/6 weeks at a time.

Did a couple of years in Germany (came home every 6/8 weeks) late 70’s, Hamburg, Dusseldorf, and Magdeburg. Went out with a gang of steel-fixers, then got start scaffolding crap money all system/frames, finally ended up bricklaying for 12 month, slashing up giant blocks, good money if you could stay out the pub and put full weeks in.

Happy Days

JOE FAGIN “AUF WIEDERSEHEN PET” LYRICS

Working on the site,
From Morning 'till night,
That's livin' alright,
That's livin' alright,

Then a pint with the boys,
In a bar full of noise,
That's livin' alright,

Working all day,
For a pitence of pay,
Then blow it all on Saturday night,
That's livin' alright,

And you kiss the dames,
But you don't ask their names,
That's livin' alright.

Working in the sun,
Drinking Schnapps having fun,
That's livin' alright,

Then a night in the town,
Spreadin' it around,
That's livin' alright,

Working all day,
For a packet of pay,
And send a little back to the wife,
That's livin' alright,

Still you keep a little here,
Just to keep you in beer,
That's livin alright.

Yeah you play the game,
Then it's Auf Wiedersehen,
That's livin alright.

Telling the lie,
With a glint in your eye,
'Cause tommorrow you'll be back on the site,

And you kiss the dames,
But you don't ask their names,
That' livin alright.

Yeah you play the game,
Then it's Auf Wiedersehen,

That's livin' alright,

Had to be one a, fking broken brains.

It appears that in all your travels, you didn't get a sense of humour did you? :wondering:

i was under the impression they couldnt go anywhere near HAM just goes to show you how stereotypes can be missleading ;)

Pakistan or East Ham...? ;)

Digged in Plaistow this year, saw a job in front of a kebab shop in Upton Park Rd 30ft plus span on single 450mm beams, at least 7 boarded lifts punched off them and a temporary roof on top.
I have never seen beams bend like that before, I thought I should phone the HSE before all those nice muslims get killed by the scaffold collapsing but I forgot:confused:

you inconsiderate bestard why didnt you put another 4 lifts on it and then take the ties out on the way down.
i know thats what i would have done but thats just me i will do anything to help my country out;)
