Work-starts-on-Clifden-bridge

******** the games fecked because of insurance
thats the reason the oca brought it in
as old scaff mentioned a chinky set is all you need ive done it and it doesnt hurt yer feet like a t peice
im not trying to argue with you aom just my opinion

I'm not arguing either, a half set would be fine for some but not me, I would want a checked butt all day long although I have been down with just the fitting but would never repeat that today.

I was maybe a bit later going out there, as I said you would be beached for doing it when I was there.

I worked with jp as a young lad up in st fergus after hed been banned from offshore.i would be in the boozer with my wee pal (rip) and the big man saying he wasnt boozing as he was on the slimfast
but drinking pints of guiness in the oner while telling me about sinatra, his pal in the nz sas etc etc
he was good ;)

Near the end of his offshore career he was at 33 stone so Shell ask the on shift medic to have a word with the big man about his weight and ask him how he thought about getting his weight down and how and if there is anything that he could do to help him,
Now the big man was no mug as you know and told him to cut his head of as it was a third of your body weight and that will be 11 stone right way,
Now you can imagine the look on the bloke face as the Big man walk of towards the galley his recreation room

haha, he was a machine for sure. The 5 foot butts because it was his erse going on it not mine was classic.

Also in his day he could pass a 21 straight out to you with one arm 45% now thats what you can do when you eat all your porridge said the Daddy bear

He must have been a bear in his day right enough, is he still around?

Yes a far i no his two sons are in the game and the Big man drive a we bus for the old age pensioners to and from the hospital so there will be some long journeys for these folk
Few detours pass the bakers and just to finish of some of the storys

I met one of his sons by the same name who looked like his dad would have in his day. I honestly wouldn't mind sitting in that bus listening to his stories for a while anyway.

Good to know he is still going strong, they broke the mould with him.

Have not seen him in years or heard anything about him. He used to live round here and got me a few jobs. Where is he now?

Seen him in the station hotel in Aberdeen about 2 years ago did not say a word finished of his breakfast and slid under the door to get in to the pick up bus with his snake skin bag and boots

Ps still had his blue poller neck jumper on

haha, brilliant.

I thought his off shore days were long behind him, think RBG banned him years back for the demon drink but could be very wrong.

He was a bit strange but would quite like to bump into him again as he did help me.

Yes one good turn deserves another let the past stay in the past as life is to short

You have obviously crossed swords so I will leave it there but thanks for your input tonight it was good to hear a couple of these stories from JP.

Still laughing at the blue jumper.:laugh:

Never crossed swords but when your working with your mentors and they say watch that person and that person and you learn the lingo Aka snake it does stick but as you say we will leave it at that cheers for the crack this is what the from is about

Each to their own Old Scaff but I have never been on a dropper without a check. I'm not that fat but did like the extra security. As a Glasgow man you will remember the man who would put 5 foots in for butts.

Aom you haven't lived ! cant you remember your mate setting you up and putting your but on a swivel or even loose on a double

Don't think so Charlie, I dare there have been a few over the years who would have loved it but never seen it done.

Old Scaff & AOM thankyou updating on J.P. I had the pleasure working with him on Nin Cent He was only 22 stone at that time,I remember 1 time Erect Drop Scaffold in Centre Shaft with 21s & he slid down Dropper which another guy was already on he said he did it to see if There was enough room on 12inch Butt 4 x 2 slim fellas, no check fit on Trapeze in them days.
Good to Hear hes still out and about.(And guys were always entertained with his Stories)
Full respect.

Now I don't want to go on about JP but as you know its like a drug if you knew him
Back in the late 80s he had a VW beetle and got it pimp up with the lower suspension it hit the headlines in the daily record as a top converted beetle bright yellow chrome trims and what made it special they had to remove the front seats and make it a 2 seated to get the Big man in still remember the headlines to this day New 2 seater VW bug for sale .
Must be one of the most famous Scaffs in Scotland or UK
