Trad

That was how most firm priced their jobs years ago in London X amount of hours to erect and X amount to strike , and it was all based on the union rate at the time, 30 hours a day used to be a decent days wages , and overtime used to be at a 4-1 rate .

We used to do most of our target jobs based on hours , a job might be worth 200 hours to erect so 2 handed if you knocked it out in 2 days you where earning top money .

That's how I remember it BigPhil. If you were any good you could live off your target pay and not touch your basic.

So what you're saying is, if he gets £116/day then he's probably only worth that?

In a nutshell.....yes.

TG20 hasn't made any difference to the way scaffolds are erected. There were always standards you were supposed to comply with.

True, TG20 is almost identical to BS5973.

We get paid in minutes on the firm I'm on!!

Most of the scaffolding "specialist" firms paid in "hours"The norm was 5 or 6ft an hour basing out, 8ft an hour for straight forward independent work including ladder access and 1 lift of boards.Extra lifts of boards were paid at 10 boards an hour(handrail included)there were prices for towers and birdcages. There were a lot less scaffolding firms back then and they all paid much the same output rates

We worked at 8ft hour up to about 10 lifts high, then the output rate would drop to 6,5,4 ft hour depending on the height,It was all rope & wheel in those days so size really did matter :smile1:

Most decent gangs could knock out 100 hours a week (4 1/2 days) all things being equal. As of today the problem is when you got held up erecting,or was sick or a bank holiday you were paid 8 hours a day at your basic rate.

It didnt matter which system you were paid if you had the craft you could earn well.

i do not work for trad you cretin

We ain't on target
It's just what they pay
I'm not the only one
All the new starts are getting it

Sg4 has bollaxed the pricework, double fuked as takes you twice as long with more gear, intermediate handrails yes, fully boarded lifts ....as long as I can jump up without a handrail and put one on, clipping on on your first lift 1.5m off the ground, which every kunt and his dog are telling you to do.....priceless, ive gone past arguing about it now I just move on to an outfit that either pays a good day rate or turns a blind eye on price

Nothing wrong with price work but Andy isn't on price work.

30 years ago Palmers use to guarantee everyone and his dog anything between 12 - 24 hours a day depending on their abilities. (And a van with a fuel card)
Holiday pay was just your holiday stamps.

Daylight Robbery,HA,gotta admit have never worked for D&R,only going by the word on the street .

D+R might as well be called SGB/Harsco as it's all the old lot that got the boot from SGB now run D+R, Kevin mouatt pushed out most of the original D+R staff and got his old crew of the dole and back in to work!!

When I was on the East London Line there was a few D&R lads working next to us on Haggerston Stn (Really good lads) they were happy with their deal.

Me and a friend of mine paid money out for travel n digs which come to nearly £200+ watever the cost was for food n drink the moral of the story we was promised 12 hour shifts everyday 7 days a week if we wanted, 12 hour night shifts wer also mentioned.. we then got there to be told it would only be 8 hours shifts n no night shifts which wasnt worth doin specially for such a big outlay.... so ide stay well clear of this outfit specially if ur guna have to fork money out for digs n travel !!
