The windy scaffold collapse thread.

Its all in the toggles you use and the pattern they go on in, amazing how many in our game dont know about the staples in the toggles determining the strength !

However sh1t happens so lets not blame ourselves all the time, theirs enough doing that already !

so what is the pattern, and how many toggles are required??
It was easy years ago when you had the "black eyelets" to follow !!!

The commonly used flexi tie breaks at 45kg so whatever the designer states the spacing is your answer.

Monarflex data below.

Monarflex Scaffband Flamsafe should be applied horizontally while taking care to overlap the lower sheet externally for weather protection and
overlap lower sheet internally if used for containment. Fixing the sheeting to the scaffold must be done according to calculations taking factors
like wind, building season and height of the surrounding buildings into consideration. We recommend the use of 1 Monarflex Flexitie fixing/m2
but any fixing must be placed according to calculations for each project.

hows the vac wrap sheeting stack up against the wind, cause that wont let go like the bungies would, or would it, not used it that much to be honest.

We've only used the shrink wrap when weve done temp roofs to give complete protection, as of yet weve havnt experienced any probs with it.
But that could be down to the fact no wind could get inside the structure to effect the stability of the scaffold.

You're not going to shrink wrap a single elevation scaffold without passing the responsibility on are you?

LiveLeak.com - Six storey scaffolding collapses during storm in Denmark

This must have been frightening to watch.

Have paused this and cannot see a tie anywhere.

The sheeting at the top had mostly detached, but still blew over with no ties.

You can get Monarflex free flow which allows wind to pass through.

I e-mailed all my customers on Thursday pm to warn them to check all their scaffolds as at least we had the friday and saturday just to check.

Sorry - missed the ties to the balcony railings which got pulled off with the scaffold
