scaffolders or parasites

And interestingly, Happy, 621 views but only 41 replies... I always wonder about those sort of stats!

dont start quoting stats to me,when you have "advisors" instructing people to say they go through 3 titanium spanners in a year.
you my friend and your organisation are indeed parasites feeding off scaffolders who beleive that the money taken from the tax man will not be reclaimed,it will be taxback 2000 rings a bell.
i have morals and i dont apologise for that

I remember that tax back 2000 thing Happy. I went on the elf-elgin hook up where I met a load of the guy's from Nigg who said they had claimed thousands for travel and I tried to do the same with my local accountant who kept telling me it was wrong and they should never have been paid out. I didn't believe him at first then after about 3 trips the stories started coming in about the boy's getting nailed from the tax man. Never been so glad I never got a rebate.

Ive spoke to a few guys and they all mention how they have been advised by better £$£ to claim for all sorts.i mean 3 titanium spanners in 1 year come on to feck
IT WILL ALL END IN TEARS FOR THE LADS,NOT THE SO CALLED ACCOUNTING FIRMS
IF IT SOUNDS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE ---IT IS

IV just done a tax return with them, really worried feel nieve and bit silly now

Hi Fezzie,

You have no reason to feel naive or silly. Unfortunately the world is full of ner do wells and nay sayers. It's also full of people who listen to untruths and gossip, rather than having first hand experience.

There was a thread a few weeks back, where the tax back 2000 thing was mentioned. I can only guess that happyhugenoet and skid are mates, and neither are clients, so actually cannot draw from their own factual experiences.

The thread ended with this post from Roger, our MD, http://www.scaffoldersforum.com/scaffolders-tax-advice/7596-big-thanks-better-tax-2.html#post99498.

If you need any re-assurance, please feel free to call us.

dont know the guy skid, but i know a few guys your company have advised to claim for 3 titanium spanners with for 1 year.
i also asked my accountant and his responce was "sounds dodgy"
best of british to everyone concerned in this matter, but remember the tax man always gets his money back if it is found to be a false claim.

happyhugenoet,
you certainly and most definitely do not know even one single person that anybody at my company has "advised to claim for 3 titanium spanners with for 1 year"...

we have rules here that I personally put in place and ensure are rigourously adhered to. We are a small specialist company, I sit at the same desks and answer the same calls as this handpicked group of people.
Every single one of them care deeply about the 'Bettertax' service and constantly strive to give the best and most accurate advice ( and I hear every call).

Obviously I would be impressed if on reflection you retracted your third party, hearsay based spurious (and slanderous) accusation... but I suspect that you won't. Although, as a general observation, personally I understand your reasons for starting this thread and frankly agree with much of your sentiment.

But for clarity's sake -
Bettertax do not advise anybody to claim for any specific number of any type of any product at any time.... Period!

Best regards,
roger

The thing is with the Construction trade, is that no one person has the exact same expenses, at any time.
Mistakes are made and more then often mistakes are learned from.

How many of these world wide corporations cut corners and fiddle tax regulations to save money and get things that they might be eligible for?
Nearly all of them...

Ive known Scaffolders to claim and get paid for purchasing brand spanking new vans, without paying for them, as a tax fiddle.
Tax regulations are a grey area and very expansive.

Imo, BetterTax is spot on and ive yet to speak to anyone whos had a problem with them.

Just to expand a little on Jason's point... Tax is a fairly complex subject.
For your consideration it is worth noting that despite the fact that the Government now have a dedicated "Office Of Tax Simplification" the 'Tax Handbook' (as published by Tolleys) in 1997 consisted of 4988 pages...
The 2011 edition has 14,586 pages.
