safety harness ??

signed up with FFS agency today and was asked if i have my own Safety harness?

As not all companies Will supply you with PPE.
Where doo I stand on getting a harness from ebay and getting it tested cert.d ect.

if it was an out of date harness can i still get it tested ect
Any one know of any firms that will test and cert safety gear in kent essex?

or do i have to buy a new one fresh out the rapper
2 or 1 point land yard ???
Im thinking or a miller single point harness ?

You should NOT have a harness as your a labourer, as your not allowed on scaffold, the agency is bang out of order for asking you that mate you'll have to wait till you get part 1 on a proper firm for a harness
 
Yes, but they must be on a fully boarded hand railed platform when handling material.

Even the scaffs are meant to be fully enclosed when chaining up gear.
 
That's the problem with policy's, no room for assessment. It's all in SG4.

The agency thing, has always annoyed me being honest, can't blame Fat Boy for wanting a job and all that is standing between him and a bit of graft is a harness. Obviously he is going to do whatever it takes to get one, any old thing should do the trick. The truth is, he should never be in a position where he needs one and asking if he has one is as mentioned earlier, bang out of order.

Spot on mate, 10 years ago I left the yard was giving a harness and was allowed to go on the scaffold but like I said that was 10 years ago and working to sg4, now days if fat boy walked on site with a harness on what's the first thing they will say

You shouldn't listen to me because I hate them (Harnesses) but for what it's worth:

Tell them you've got one....then beg , buy or steal any kind.........

The chances are you'll never be questioned about it as long as the Elfs see that you are wearing one......I was once on a job for ages wearing one without a lanyard....and got away with it!

Like I said: You shouldn't listen to me.....but it may help :nuts:

Depends on what you are doing and who for, lots still doing their own thing, like sliding rail. We have been on a single lanyard forever but I finally ordered a batch of twintails the other day. The SG thing is starting to sink in but being honest, the contractors and safety men have a lot to learn about the real connotations of it, they seem to think unless you use a step you are not complying. It is a slow process.
 
id like to think im a little more then a lab more a trainee as i can labour and learn = trainee
is a trainee allowed on a scaffold?? if soo me thinks fat boi will need to be cliped on at all times dont want to make a mess if i hit the florr lol
 
erm erm erm don't want to say as i haven't sent off for my trainee card yet iv got a basic site operative...
I called the cscs people and spoke to a really help fall lady..
She said the pluss side of starting off with a scaffold lab card is that lasts longer then the trainee card..
as iv done scaffold laboring in the past bes thing to do is go straight for my trainee card then on too my part 1 part 2 then basic ect ect

I get the same Birthday Card every year that says I'm 21 ........

..............so it must be true :laugh:
 
im in way over my head here its all soo confusing think im off to hang my self with a safety harness lol

well im slowly building up my kit from tools belt harness ect got my own PPE as far as hivis hardhat boots ect soo when i do get on a course im all ready to go!!! just still tying to get some graft in with some one. as i said ill hump board and tube all day avery day if i means ill get some cash together for my part 1 to start off.....

nope it go's lab card trainee card then part 1 part 2 then basic one day assessment
then advanced then 2 day assessment

but if you have knowledge of laboring for scaffolders then you can skip the lab card but you'll need to sit your tests before it runs out
IV DONE MY HOME WORK CAN I HAVE A GOLD STAR PLEASE
