whats the implications of company employing scaffs for short term only?
or for target?surely there must be a way for the company to be able to take someone on for various non full time positions....

I recently worked for national company on the understanding that there was only 4 weeks work available, we were supplied with full PPE overalls, boots etc they obviously thought it was more beneficial than using an agency.

Apart from the admin time of getting them on payroll, nothing really.

What the real situation here is greed. Contractors want to be able to use and abuse scaffolders like a throwaway commodity. "I don't need you tomorrow, so you'd better ring the agency" (at 16.30) "But I might need you back on Friday"

No need to worry about employers NI contributions or holiday entiltlement either. That's the agency's problem - which effectivly becomes the scaffolders problem, because they'll reduce his rate to cover his employement costs.

We work on 40%. So if we pay a man £100.00 wages, he's costing us £140.00 to employ.

Agree 100% Phil, The cake is only so big, bring a third party to the table and the slice the scaff gets is considerably reduced.

from what i can see its not contractors who are the main users of agency scaffs to carry out daywork or amendments it seems to be the scoffolding companys themselves who are the main protractors in this(benchmark, tone, hertel, pyeroy) to name a few,so it dont take a phone call to einstien to relise that its as financialy benificial to these companys as it is main contractors to use temp labour ie agencys.its up to the said individual wether to accept those terms of employment or not, full well in the knowledge that there is 3rd party to satisfy financialy.employment is changing long gone are the days of the one firm man.

one firm man.oops

If they are that good i think someone on here could do a lot better from people i know say that the agencys well most of them know **** all but are good on bullshiting .

at least it will have someone who knows one end of a spanner and can talk to them men doing the work instead of saying go to this job no ****** there and get on with it,

Well ive worked for two scaffolding companys this year both going bust owed 4 weeks wages and 16 days holiday pay. That totals 7 weeks work.Im not praising agencys but if id not got any work from agencies i dont know where i would be right now.Im getting £130 every two weeks uneployment right now and that doesent cut it when you have a missus and two kids to feed. Its a shame Robert Hurst isnt a sponsor on the forum any more as he posted quite alot of jobs on here.Well its 4 wks to xmas and hoping something comes in for me and the other 3 lads thats looking for work right now.Once again im glad slav got his money and all the hard work that he does on the forum posting jobs on here,it is noticed by me and probably others on here

Robert Hurst never were sponsors on this forum.

Good luck with the job hunting.

the thing is about price based gangs now is there is too much safety involved in jobs, 3rd and sometimes 4th handrails, loading bays are just crazy now, brickguards, ladder gates and hatches, all adds up when ur trying to bang up the metreage. so ur pretty much better on day work. they still want you to stay on site till the death so ur no better off on price.
