Old School

there is old bold scaffolders

but

no bold old scaffolders

thats whats diffrent with the olde school no harness or anisha reel just skid marks.

Talking of skid marks, was scaffolding a dome once and the chargehand wanted to have a crap, He shouted down for the bucket and when he was finished filled it with bad fittings, sent it down an told the groundsman not to send any more crap fittings up. ya can imagine the rest.

Thanks for the input lads you have surprised me with the amount of interest the thread produced

Ya the adrenelin rush at heights was a bonus as well as the normal uncluttered climbing on the smaller jobs

We were in the pub almost every day for our 3 pints, 3 man gang each buying a round, problem was every so often one of us would buy a secound round, and the other two would then be oblidged to buy a second round
ended up many a time at 1:30 pm,with six pints under the belt discussing if we going back on the job or staying in the pub :D

Scaffolders scared of heights, sadly I have come across them,

my old charge hand, if you could get a 2nd round in him you knew you was on a good for a good afternoon

unfortunatly the pressures from them in the office would only let him loose 2 or 3 times a week

that still goes on today.....................

thats really odd i have met a few scaffs over the years who are scared oh heights , why the f*** would you want to be a scaffolder if your scared of heights, i have always thought the buzz i get from a hanger or canterlever or a really high job is part of the reason i do it

100ft up striking a cantilever and it time to undo the rakers , what a rush

Skid marks!!!!!!!!!!!

Second year in scaffolding went to Putney to strike a job, top lift 8ft at end spurred up. Started to undo handrail the ledgers were sleeved outside the standard & the handrail was the only thing holding it!!!

Just as well my spanner was slow then being single rail:sick::sick:

hahahaha you just cant prepare yourself for that little drop no matter how many times you do it

My bot used to tighhten, when I stepped back off a lapped board you had not noticed was there, only a few centremetre but you knew you had gone lower than expected

You read it wrong!! I did not undo the spur!!!!

The sleeve was outside the end standard. The spurs were pushing the tubes out the sleeves!!

The hand rail was holding it together :sad2:

First lift on a bricklayers scaffold no handrail or toe board ! Regs used be handrail and toe board only required on first lift if it was above 1.8m , I remember this as one of the questions in my part one exam in 1986 !

i remember an old boy saying to a painter what do you want stop ends for mate you got a brace at each end , how the f*** can you fall of that , must admit the painter wasent convinced
