Middle East vacancies

Cheers Phil181 I have passed the news on to a few people I know who are out in the sand pit.
A lack of trust in the management team is a problem in corrupt countries lol

Think their work is at the Splash at the moment mate although I don't really know too much.

I'm reliably informed that Mr Brogan from the Brogan Group flew out to UAE last week and sacked his management team...

Correct me if I am wrong but didnt Brogans flood the UK scaffolding market with cheap east european labour in the 90s?
God help us if they start bringing asian labour over to uk:sick: from dubia as they do really work for 120 quid a WEEK

I heard that the Asian scaffolders in Saudi and UAE are being fast tracked through the NVQ Level 2 and 3 Access and Scaffolding qualification.
Does this mean that if they get a UK visa they can then do the touchscreen safety test and then get a CISRS card???

Asians being fast tracked for NVQs, i doubt that, theres only one accredited NVQ centre in UAE for scaffolding, and they charge a fortune for outsiders, do all there NVQs inhouse only, dont know about Saudi, last time i was there, no NVQ centres that i knew of. someone maybe winding you up.

Maybe you are not up to date. SGB have a centre and also ETA have a centre both in UAE and also several have started up in Riyadh, and Jeddah.
Even if done in house the candidates still gain NVQ and can go elsewhere.to find work.

Yes mate i do know the companies NVQ Accredited, but during my 8 years in Dubai i have never come across an Asian with scaffolding NVQ qualifications, oh and i have only been back in UK since March of this year, so i think i am well up to date, Fredscaff would know a great deal more as he is still there, and his company have also got NVQ accreditation, but i dont think any of the asian scaffs working with Fredscaff have an NVQ.

The whole point of having an accredited NVQ training centre is to train and assess candidates to the set standards.
If this is done and a candidate has reached the level of competence in each required unit then the candidate would be considered competent and receive the NVQ certification as stipulated.
Therefore if a British scaffolder was competent in Access,Rigging and Scaffolding Level 2 and could work in the UK then an Asian scaffolder would, subject to getting a work permit, be able to do the same.
Didnt this happen in Brunei bigbadbob?

No Fred did'nt happen in Brunei, The then citb put a ban on forigners outside of the uk with oversea's qualifications, working in uk. dont know how things stand today.

As I understand it these are not foreign qualifications authorised by NVQ.The N stands for National which only applies to the UK. These are exactly the same units, certification etc as if done in UK.
Dont think anyone except the Home Office can put a ban on people working in UK.
The CITB and its cronies might think its powerful but its not that powerful!!

I agree I think the NVQ people couldnt care less as long as people are paying them.

i've recently been asked to go out to the UAE, North Africa and India by ABB to run their training centres. albeit in house and not nvq

He did indeed. The word was he set up a training centre in lithuania, gave them his own version of a ticket and had them living in two houses about 16 blokes in each house. If he could fast track asians through and replace the EE he would do it. they were fucked, thought they were getting trained as scaffolders, but their tickets weren't worth the paper they were written on anywhere else. Nasty, nasty firm IMHO. the kind of firm which has helped set the building industry back 20 years in this country.

Ian, Are ABB planning on doing their own scaffolding then? Maybe they are fed up with all the court cases over the years eg palmers???
