Middle East vacancies

But you stated...

'Thats a pretty standard package although some firms only give 2 return flights per annum'

As you would know from Singapore Phil181 flights, accomodation etc vary according to married or bachelor status although these days many companys prefer to employ only on single status packages to avoid expensive school fees etc

Read this thread with interest and all of you make very important points.
Things are tough everywhere although it is still possible to earn a very reasonable living overseas.
Was offered a job in Singapore 18 months ago which became a victim of the global downturn but the package was not as good as those in the Middle East. Maybe things will improve globally in time but as things are at the moment its time to just consolidate and ride out the storm.

Funnily enough I got offered a job about 18 months ago at the F1 circuit in Abu Dhabi. Fairly good terms were offered, but only a short contract - and the timing wasn't right.
Am always on the look out for interesting opportunities though.

Cheers

==============================
ive had enough of this crumbling country

Would just like to point out that supervising in the Middle East is generally different from supervising in the UK. Its a bit more involved than telling a few lads to put a 20x20 up and signing a tag.
Its generally expected that a ME supervisor would survey jobs, estimate , provide quotations, arrange design. logistics, invoice the jobs, maintain full records, deal with major contractors, chase bad debts and payments,in fact would be called a General Manager in UK. He should be literate, computer literate and able to deal with people of different ethnic backgrounds and languages.

Sorry to some of you guys that have asked questions, but i've been away a while.

I have to say that all there is to say has been said really. The last UK guys on the tools, that i heard of here, were for Kwikform about 15 odd years back and they were only brought in because the Indians had f*cked up and a job had collapsed. As others have said before, you need good experience and you are simply a manager under another name. Money varies a lot and so does housing allowance, so be careful to research the market well before you accept any offer you do get, because you will spend much of what you have worked for if you are not careful.

Your best bet is to try contracting on a project first. Money is usually good and it's all found, but you will be stuck in a camp for months on end, so if you
can put up with that, you might be ok. It's far cheaper and you haven't got
the flesh pots of Abu Dhabi and Dubai to relieve you of your hard earned cash every night.

Well said J but i heard PHD had some UK guys on the tools for the Atlantis opening but it was in December or January.
Although the Dubai and Abu Dhabi flesh pots can relieve you of cash they should still be experienced lol

Brogan sent a crew out to Dubai last summer when a job went pear shaped.

Yeah like I said a job went pear shaped last summer and they sent a crew out from the UK to put back on track.

They must have been an awesome crew if they were on the tools banging a lot of squares up in the summer heat here

I'm reliably informed that Mr Brogan from the Brogan Group flew out to UAE last week and sacked his management team...

A lack of trust I believe!

Only posted it because I thought it might have given some of the UAE lads a bit of a heads up to some possible employment.

Cheers

Cheers Phil181 I have passed the news on to a few people I know who are out in the sand pit.
A lack of trust in the management team is a problem in corrupt countries lol
