Lads hit the gates

its ashame his name is envoked with the republican movement when he was truely a man for all people neither colour nor creed, education is paramount in this day and age........i just wish some people would read or ask before they place judgement on such great men as connelly.

Another that worked alongside James Connoly for workers rights was James Larkin from Liverpool, He organised the dock workers of Liverpool, Belfast, Dublin, and went to New York and organised there.

Celticbhoy it did'nt matter to Connoly what flag flew, if it did'nt represent the working man then it was pointless, just change one set of greedy bosses for another. And the truth is that is what happened, Even the unions of today only pay lip service to connoly, they've become everything Connoly was against, shafting the workers in partnership with the bosses.

they would be turning in there graves if they could see the state of the unions now + the greedy b******s that are supposed to be running them...

paul thanks for that, that needed saying am afraid thats what we have sleptwalked into unions with no clout or say.........embroiled in voting deals, not giving a sh1t about the proleteriate or the common voice they have been bought over methinks.

now now boys whats with all the union bashing,so called socialists.how many members of this forum are screaming for jobs on the blue book sites, sites i may add that are union agreements.
A SHOW OF CARDS COULD BE THE ORDER OF THE DAY.

spoken like a true union man.............mines is with the union on their non involvement or help on the EICTB fiasco and if unite think they will ever entice another penny from me then they are mistaken...........they should be ashamed to represent the common man daftscaff my cards where it should be on the fulltime officals desk with a cover note explaining why its there AKA MR HARDACRE,enough said on him.

please dont ever confuse unionism with socialism.........as todays incumbants of unionism have let the working man down.

Spent 8 weeks on an all out srike of scaffolders in Dublin in 99, our union would'nt back us, They did'nt want to go against the deal they had done with the employers, without our agreement I might add. We closed down all the major sites and eventually won our case. I was a union man all my life, but when that strike ended I got out of the union. Incidentaly the same union was a spin off of the union started by James Connoly, I'm sure the man is turning in his grave to see how the fat cat succesors treat their own members.

your strike is still spoken of today brandy nasty incident that was by all accounts, but the lads enjoy the benifits that your determined stance won them.

Yeah Celticbhoy, no use talking the talk, if your not prepared to walk the walk. We gained more than money, we gained respect which was lacking, heard after it was the biggest shutdown in the construction industry in 50 years and the good thing was there was no victimisation after, we were welcomed back with open arms, though that was down to the huge money the sites were loosing without us, but it gave us a new status, they could'nt do without us.

im glad i brought up james connelly just goes to show the scaffs in the know still thank and respect edinburghs finest son cheers lads

Thanks Celticbhoy, I hope so, we had a generation that never knew hardship and lost the run of themselves, us oldtimers had seen it before, the best lessons in life are the knocks, so I hope the younger generation have learned the lesson not to trust the banks and their political lackeys.

Scaffoldking, James Connoly to me was a great man, I have read all his literature and he stands out as probably the greatest man of the labour movement. The pity is that he would turn in his grave if he saw the crowd that came after him.

I threw out of union when they would not back us,rep was always on holliday when we wanted him and when he did come he was as much use as a scaffolder with no arms.
Money making scammers.People who r in them r idle n hide behind them n put a claim in 4 nowt just t get money cos they carnt b bothered to graft!
why do u think people want blue book jobs, its raining, al melt, cabin up lol

tend to agree with you grum but i have met some tidy stewards in my time who have helped the men no end, sometimes the men dont want to help themselves leaving good union stewards in a hopeless position.

Hey Lads,

Does anyone know what is going on this week with Vivergo? Is it all sorted now?
