...go about this?

OK, I'm a 'noob' and not a scaffolder, but one thing I've learned is to go looking for the specialist knowledge, get informed, then go looking for the fella to do the job.

Here's the task:

I have a sailboat on a road trailer, on my driveway. I need to lift the 3T weight of the boat a few inches so as to remove the trailer, then lower the boat down 2 feet into a rigid boat cradle, where it will sit until I've ready to launch it.

I have 2 new 4T x 8 metre lifting strops, and am considering using 2 x 2T chain hoists - either side - just greater than the width of the boat apart, slung from either a specially-made gantry - or scaffolding, if I can - close to the 'uprights' - and not the centre of an I-beam. I'm looking for guidance on whether scaffolding is practicable, how, and what constraints need to be considered.

The top of the sailboat is 9' above the bottom of the keel, then the trailer bed is 2' above ground. There would need to be at least another couple of feet for the chain hoist clearance....

Please see the pics, and note the fully-mature lime tree close to the trailer's wheels.

Thanks for any suggestions, warnings, hoots of laughter....

build a large wall round it make it water proof. then get a diver in to cut the trailer up with burning gear. then let water out a little bit at a time once it floats take out olde trailer. only problem your have then you will have to buy a new trailer. when you want to put boat back on trailer. unless you no a good weilder but then your be stuck with the problem you had when you first started. lmfao!!!!

jack the boat up slightly then chok it up sturdy an all that, then let air out of tyres to get trailer out, not sure bout your cradle tho.

3.5 tonne is not a great amount of weight for scaffold to carry, but by the time you find someone to sort scaffold out an pay them, sort lifting beam , plus bits an bobs all paid for then the chew of raising the boat getting trailer out cradle in and lowering boat down , the time an expense would far out weigh cost of a crane.

find a local privately owned crane company , call round with cash no reciept and you will get job done bargain price .

cantilever and brace a unit beam thru the tree branches, swing a block and tackle off it and splatts yur uncle:eek:

Get some explosives, pop down to your local Dam, next set some charges all around the dam. Nip home , put all your valuables and wife and kids( optional) on your roof. Detonate your explosives from a lofty position. When the dam collapses everything around will be destroyed as the water level rises. When the water reaches the trailer with the boat on it the boat will simply float off and hey presto , problem solved.

Barnes Wallace pioneered this method using Lanchaster bombers during ww2

local scrap yard will have an hiab.or tell some pikeys they can have yur trailer.soon be beached.

why exactly do you need to get it off the trailer and where are you

Just a thought,
Insert angled props, timber or scaffold between the ground (outside the trailer) and the hull using the existing props in the pictures as your location guide. I would recomend cutting an angled base in the ground with a board as a base plate below the props. This angled base will resist the horizontal forces which would otherwise cause the props to slip.
I would then tie the front two and the rear two props together across the beam of the boat.

Once all is secure, deflate the tyres on the trailer and remove.
Insert new cradle, pack and allow the boat to come to rest reinsert props as required.
Remove external props, retire to pub

3ton block an tackle on the tree next to yr boat ,take you 10 mins job done

Thanks so far. The trailer belongs to a farmer-friend, who needs it now to get in his hay. The idea is to lift it about 3 inches, remove the trailer, then lower the 3-ton boat down 2 feet into a sectional yacht cradle, which will be built around the suspended hull.

Lifting it INTO the tree will damage the hull. Taking the whole weight on props alone will damage the hull

I have 2 chain hoists, and 2 new lifting strops 4T x 8m. Anything else I'll buy or hire.

What is the view on these structures? Up to the job? What units to use?

:wondering:
