Counter weight

Aom

The problem with the people who are , in a retarded way, the neccesary evil part of our game , is that they tend to give off a very high handed attitude and treat scaffolders as though they are not worthy.Without reading from a book they are dumbstruck.

Perhaps a course on office etiquette's and customer focus would benefit them and keep them out of their parents attic watching Japanese porn and writing fan mail to Jeremy Kyle.

At the risk of being repetitive (i posted this on an earlier post), i would like to make peace with all hierarchy and forward a postcard. This is not to any of the fellow scaffolder boys, but merely to show my appreciation to all those involved in the so called consultancy/ support side of our professional game.

mmm.... very interesting thread, but lets remember the origional post was asking for a rough idea not Isac Newton's take on it.
For me I would go with Doug's (Demess)formula and as the guy said he will seek the services of a designer so happy days.

The fundamentals of the Deemess formula are almost correct but not quite.
W= is an accumulation of ALL imposed loads (Live and Dead Wts)
P= the distance from fulcrum to each imposed load
T= the distance from fulcrum to the center of the resisting force. (T is not a weight it is a distance)
The 3 referred to is a factor of safety and is a variable for various conditions.
The expression of the formula is correct but the interpretation is incorrect and as such could have a detrimental effect on its application.

Secondary to the above AxSD is not new to this game and is a highly respected Engineer of many years in the industry. If a guy of his elk offers an opinion it is normally worth listening.

I have created a simple xl spread sheet for straight forward cantilevers which will give a clue about down forces and uplifts.
HOWEVER be warned this is a guide and is only as good as the user and their input!!
If you think it will be of use PM me your email address and I will forward it.
regards
Alan

I find it easier with a wee brandy.;)

I have always worked on 3rds , so 3 meters out 9 meters in all boxed and braced ,
and 3 x self and imposed weight as Kentledge on the end.
done plenty small hangers like this over the years ;)
