I remember back in the 70s when I was working for Mc Alpines at Ashford on a 10 floor new build when all floors had to have bird cages for drop ceilings and light fix ECT.This happen on most jobs .we have lost all this work to cherry pickers+scissor lifts and mobile towers.scaffs could earn good money on bird cage all about 1m high.those were the days.

There welcome to it bloody horrible putting them in loads of boards they used to be a bloody pain in the arse if you ask me around my way you did um on hr rate total ball bag and on your own walking miles with the gear.

Total agree with you there midge absolute ball ache

Used to do them in the supermarket new builds as well. Used the SGB polyblock occasionally but usually t&f.
Remember when stripping a big one in Harlow one of the taller guys who used a lot of hair gel left a trail like a snail over the ceiling panels.

Lmfao 😃

Once you have got your materials on location on the 10 floor job it was just passed up to the next floor.easy money.

We still do a good few bird cages on stairwells , and crash decks for demo work
I always seem to make good money from them

And when you had down one you could usually leave the doubles on the standards as the floors where usually the same heights ;)

Lot of building sites want full birdcage instead of bags for protection of joiners when doing roof trus braces..

I have found the MEP and finishing contractors seem to get in a muddle with mobile scaffolds. They often put ceiling hangers or hvac in first then can't move the mobiles.
Give them a full birdcage, far safer and quicker in the long run.
The other week I came across five 1.8m X 1.8m mobiles in a room with an area of only 35m2.

They are Cheeper by far and in the present economy it's all about what's cost affective for maximum profit unfortunatly....
