Trainee Estimator/Surveyor - would suit college leaver

I thought that...
I wasted over a year of my life on TRAD Scaffolding, with the 'prospect' of becoming an Engineer. I busted my arse and put alot of effort into doing as well as i could and learning as much as i could, all for £100 a week.

£100 a week - 8am-6pm, without being paid London Waiting or any kind of grants for training or anything - or any kind of help.

What did i get for it?
1 little disagreement with Des Moore, over me working onsite and i was binned faster then you can say - "Mugged right off."

The disagreement?
Being TOLD, not asked that i would work out on site for a few weeks to help out for £100 a week... not the £60 a day that all the other Labourers were getting.
When i asked for the £60 a day rate, i was screamed at down the phone and then 15 minutes later i was told that i would never ever work in the office for TRAD again and that i would get my £60 a day.

The following 2 years of being beasted about was a nightmare, or being slung from site to site, untill i eventually quit and went on another firm.

THATS what having 'good prospects' does for you.
F.uck all.

I work for money.
Money first and Money last.

Theres no such thing as 'prospects', unless your face-fits or your an arse licker...

Fair enough Jason, that never worked out but doesn't mean it can't for someone else. Different strokes for different folks or we wouldn't have anyone in our universities.

Jason your so bitter, I think BJC is offering a decent job here. Im 29 years old and been scaffolding for 12 years and dont half wish i had an oppertunity like this when i left school. Even now i wouldnt mind giving it a go and i know other lads that would love the chance too.

I admit, i am pretty bitter, tbh...
You would be too, if you had to put with some of the injustices i have had to.

Anyway, this aint about me.
This is about the thread and i think that while the job seems ok, i personally think that the money is low, thats all.

Everyone starts on ***** money, its down to the individual to prove he is worth more i geuss.

Just to underline Jasons point, attached below is a job for a trainee surveyor currently advertised in London by 'Acme Appointments' for a trainee surveyor - not a graduate, starting pay £15-16k pa. Permanent position, only A levels required.

"

Fair enough Binthere but the difference is minimal and unless you are willing to pay that a month some folk will never be happy. The fact is the original job was for 12-14k a year, not the best but better than coming out of uni 20k or more in debt. I understand Jason's and others point but that is what is on offer, if you want the big bucks do what Jason did and get stuck right in to the graft or if you see a bigger picture where you want to be earning steady money all year round without your big toe falling off in winter then this might be for you.

AOM - please note the wage differential is as much as 33% over the two jobs. In London, on the south east's cost of living, you will need every penny. I have been there!
