Nobody is taking me on in the other thread, so I thought I would see if I had more luck starting another.

Has anyone tried to erect a free standing birdscage using the compliant brace pattern?

What every set of standards, continuous through the full height with an opposing brace every what ever it was

Not actually tried it yet but I did see how they wanted it done on the e suite

Yeah, that's the one. It's a bit like the 2 bay 1 lift sway brace, it might be stronger, but it certainly doesn't look right.

The guy who done our tg20:13 course said it doesn't have to be one tube continuous and that it could be all one bay braces

Now I cant see a problem with bracing a bay dog legged up to the top then another bay dog legged up but bracing the opposite way

My thoughts as well, but someone has obviously done their sums. You can still do it old school if it's butted on all 4 elevations.

Yeah, I found that e suite really easy to use. With the wind map locator thing really simple to use

To be honest, I haven't had a chance to use the eguide yet, I suppose that would simplify the process considerably. I was just interested to hear what everyone else thinks about it.

I did sell up, or still a bit in the process. Shutting down is proving just about as difficult as starting up. I'm still in the game to a degree, can't see myself getting out entirely.

so you may only use the old way 1 line of standards every 6 bay if its butted or tied other wise it every bay . just reading it , and it says to be braced with right angled couples to standards ????

Old school if tied or butted. I don't know how to explain this without the use of pictures but if it's free standing you brace it more like a buttress. Not every bay but the end bay on the base, come in a bay on the second again on the third. At least 1 brace going the opposite way.

am with you what happens after its 1 bay braced oppisite you then go out again or start again

Sure the opposing brace is every so many lifts

The compliance sheet will tell ya

MrB is using the eguide, so he won't be far away, but from how I understand it, the opposing brace must meet the main brace even if it's a lift or two below. It all depends on the height of the job, and to be honest, I wouldn't like to have to erect one in anger without the eguide.

Yeah wouldn't like to be doing something like this from a compliance sheet
