Well said my friend.

I went there with my family buying into the moveing down under bulls**t, sold up and give up my job offshore in the uk to go, thinking i would spend more time with the family.

I lasted 8 months and over all it cost me £25,000 +, the money is s**te and the standard of the scaffolding has to been seen, the house prices are through the roof and you are right in saying that you could not aford to come because of the cost.

So if you thinking of going, THINK AGAIN PLEASE.

I was offered a start last month in New Zealand when I worked it out it would cost me over £3000 just to get there with the family and sort a house out for the first few months, They offered me $25 NZD per hour, just over £12.50!! need I say anymore!!!

i got offered the job wks ago till the MD on skype interview said i"d be on highest money 25NZ dollars then seen what it was in stirling, god nearly chocked to death, dont mind 40NZ ph but 25 earn that here on door step.

Stephen
It must have been the same job I had the same interview on skype, he has called me a few times since and said he can give a little bit more, I told him I would need a lot more and a house.

I can see people lining up for this great opportunity... NOT! :D

i did some research on new zealand after being offered $80k by an agency for restoration work in christchurch after the quake, as you would, but by all accounts the cost and standard of living suggest you need a helluva lot more to make it worth while. oh.......and also a fetish for sheep!!

I hear all you are saying but for some it might be about who you are trying to get away from !!

Took the words right out of my mouth HSWT!!!
I spent 4 years in NZ and agree fully with Toffeescaff comments..it is a hard place financially to get by and we also left NZ with less money than we walked into with when moved over from the UK.
But in the long term it is a back door into Australia, if you gain NZ citizenship.
If / When you move to NZ,
keep your house if you own one in the UK and rent it out.
Don't buy a house in NZ, just rent
Be prepared to both work to get by
Child care cost you a arm and a leg
Food expensive
Very little crime ( Sth Island )
Great scenenary

If your willing to give a crack, its worth doing for a quality of life style. You do not go there to earn top money.

is it me am i the only cant in britain who thinks the cost of living in britain is a facking disgrace,my kids childcare was atronomical 285 a pint in the local pubs 350 ish in the toon.i was over in new zealand 10 years ago and loved the place as said before there is very little crime and pride in your nation is not seen as some sort of racist biggotted fascist movement.Allan hit the nail on the head this country(uk) is a shiit whole and only getting worse. If i do it it will be for my kids to have a good future not for me ;)

Dont be so selfish Daftscaff, your children will have a real time over here, playing in the street with all their muslim friends, eating halal meat in their school dinners and citing the koran twice a day [so we dont upset the asians] and in a few years time they will be able to go to London and see the Pakistani flag flying everywhere they look, from the houses of Parliament to Downing street, now you cant say that would not make you proud to be British

i was there for ten years, had to come back because a family member was ill. i would go back on the next plane if i could get my wife to go. money is not everything.

GM me childish never, biggotted maybe patriotic and verging on christian fundamentalist--------could be ;)
