CISRS and NASC deem CISRS Scaffolders and Advanced Scaffolders competent to inspect scaffold structures based upon the grade of card they hold. i.e. A CISRS Scaffolder can inspect Basic Structures Independents, towers birdcages etc (this list is not exhaustive) and an CISRS Advanced Scaffolder can inspect both Basic and more complex structures Hanging Scaffolds, temporary roofs, complex design work (this list is not exhaustive).
Scaffold Inspection Refresher training will be introduced by CISRS in 2012, both CISRS Scaffolder and Advanced card holders will be required to attend the refresher, prior to renewing their CISRS cards if they wish to remain eligible to inspect scaffolds in the future.

You're still 100% wrong. You're just quoting someone's opinion.

The Cisrs information booklet Cap 609 page 25. I would say that's a bit more than someone's opinion. But hey what do they know.

The CISRS have an opinion, just like everyone else does. Their opinion is 'guidance' - which you can choose to follow or ignore as you see fit.

Their opinion was what you copied and pasted from their website - that does not make it a legal requirement.

Legally, nobody needs to be 'qualified per se' to erect scaffolding or to carry out scaffolding inspections.

But hey what do I know...

Try and get work without a Cisrs ticket, I know, I had a Ecitb ticket, and couldn't work on sites. Nasc is guidance not Cisrs. If your doing street work, yes maybe you can get by with no ticket, but what happens when something goes wrong?

It's the contractors (and more often than not, the developer) who make the rules up that you are stating.

Saying that a scaffolder cannot inspect his own work, is 100% incorrect.

If you are talking about a company specific rule, then that is something completely different.

When something goes wrong you would be asked to prove 'competency'. True, the easiest way to do that would be to produce a CISRS card - but you would not need a seperate inspection card.

Like most things, the inspection tickets were introduced due to pressure from principal contractors who employ the services of scaffolding contractors.
