Scaffold Labourer here.
3 months into my scaffold labouring, done general labouring for years but have now moved to scaffolding and will be looking to go through my part 1 and part 2 as soon as possible and would be willing to self fund this if needed.
Worked with kwik stage so far but looking to expand my knowledge and experience in all types of scaffold.
I am 31yr old and very fit and healthy, very reliable and hardworking, no problems working weekends and late nights.
Own my own ppe and willing to travel for work.
I'm based in Bo'ness so anything around Falkirk, Stirling, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Grangemouth etc would be perfect.

Please don't be put off by the lack of experience, I have all cscs h@s card and scaffolding labourers cards etc
Thanks for any help that may come my way. Or any information as to companies or individuals looking for a labourer I am currently employed with a scaffold company however I am looking to progress at a faster rate than I currently am!

Welcome Craig, i'm sure the guys on here will offer as much help and advice as they can, however does the firm your at not use tube and fitting,? that's the experience you need,

Yeah but the site/job Im on just now is all kwik stage and since I only have 3 months scaffolding labouring experience my cries are pretty much falling on deaf ears.

I'm 31yr old and looking to progress as far as possible and really make a career for myself and even self fund my part 1 and 2 if needed.

Just pretty much looking for a company/job where they will utilise my eagerness and hardwork and push me through all the training needed.

Kwikstage = Nasty stuff. I hate it with a passion...

Well Craig mate, you've done well already.
You've been honest, your posts are clear and easy to read, your showing initiative - looking good already mate. :)

Have you tried any of the Firms based in Aberdeen, like Cape, Salamis and co?
They are mainly offshore, but might be worth a crack to give them a ring and see what they can do?

Good reply Craig but the crux of your problem my friend is that employers these days tend to drag their heels and hum and har about expense and all the other ******** they fill new starters and trainees with. Being realistic mate your going to have to just take it on the chin for at least the next 6 months and keep bugging your boss, if your that keen to learn the trade he/she should see this. I and i'm sure the other more experienced men on here will agree with me , would like to know how you get on, a keen laborer is very hard to find . come on guys we have all been in craigs shoes.

Cheers for the advice.
My goal is to gain as much experience and knowledge in 4 years as I can as I'm moving to Australia.
The offshore route is also very strong in my mind I was just wanting to try and get my part 1 done at least before I go to the expense of going through the offshore courses and health and safety tests etc.

Cheers mick

Looks like I'll just have to pester, pester, pester until I'm a little more experienced and someone listens.
How much should a labourer clear a week after tax and insurance? Roughly

In 4 years you should learn enough to be able to walk onto a job and hold your own.
Dont rush though... its not all about tickets and stuff, as having all the cards but not much experience can really f.uck you up.

Ive worked with a couple of Australian Scaffolders over here and in honesty - they aint that good, lol.
Well not with Tube and Fitting anyway...

4 years is a long time mate. Anything can happen - you could win the lottery!
Which would be nice. :)

Offshore would be a good place to learn, if they give you the chance.
Theres old hands out there on the rigs who have done more Scaffolds then most of us have had hot dinners.

Fingers crossed for you mate.

3 months in and enjoying it I guess it's just a case of trying to run before I can walk really.
I'll just keep the head down and work hard and see where that leads while I keep looking at options available to me.

Really helpful forum so far, glad I signed up.

Ha Craig that's a tricky one as i see it your at the bottom of the chain it depends on if your on a day rate or price work and of course what the gaffer is willing to pay, I've worked with laborers who are on about 80,85, 90 a day but i have also worked with lads who only get 60 so the spectrum is very wide, again talk to other gangs and see how u go

I'm clearing £240 a week which I thought was low I know we all have to start somewhere.
Would be nice to wok for a company who acknowledges hard work and pays for it.

Thanks for the reply.
Birkenhead is a bit too far to travel as I'm located near Edinburgh.
Shame as I would have liked the chance.
