There are two posts to be filled, one trainee to be located in the South of England and one in the North East of England. Ideally the successful candidates will be qualified to degree level in a relevant subject but this is not a pre-requisite.
The roles will involve assisting the Quantity Surveyors on all commercial matters on major and minor contracts with personal responsibility for smaller scale contracts. The training is intended to lead up to the natural progression to a post at Quantity Surveyor level. The following bullet points are a basic outline of the topics to be covered during basic training.
 Understand the varying payment methods which our contracts are based on.
 Compare tender prices and targets and the subsequent actual cost. In particular to calculate and present a contract’s performance based on this information.
 Measure quantities physically or from drawings and to value using schedules of rates based on agreed norms.
 To collate information required for valuations and understand the importance of financial periods.
 Gain knowledge of internal costing systems and to use this to ensure our full contract entitlement.
The successful applicants will have a methodical approach, show commitment and enthusiasm, and have excellent numerical, written and communication skills. Any formal training or experience with spreadsheets would be advantageous.
