OffShore Scaffolders. Dutch Waters

at this point i should say that matt from KML is a fair man. Unfortunately me and 2 other guys were deemed not suitable by harsco recently , Matt needs a squad with experience of dutch fittings(van thiel) building hangers, if u havent built one with the van thiel , it can be , well not difficult just awkward , suddently theres no nuts and bolts , just pins and a hammer. I have found matt a fair and nice person to deal with , who is just trying to make sure he gets the right guys

seeking offshore work

hi kml could u let me know if u have received my cv and that if u think i could b sutable or the the position

Hi James,

We have received your details and have entered you into our Data base. This Dutch client is very apprehensive to use guys without experience with the Dutch method offshore. Due to there being a trade test I would hate to send you over only to fail due to there strict requirements.

We do however have agents working on Onshore work throughout The Netherlands and we are also speaking to a number of different offshore companies who also have requirements in the very near future.

Although we do not have start dates for these positions yet we should be finalising things in the coming weeks.

Obviously we will keep you informed on any future contracts now you are on the database.

If the client is Harsco I can fully understand their concerns. Many years ago when SGB operated under the name SSH Handep they had many UK scaffs go over to work on hook ups and platform maintenance projects. I can remember the Dutch management being dismayed at how many could not master the couplers, could not follow basic drawings and safety procedures. Not to mention the missed choppers and the drunken antics and wet beds in hotels in Den Helder.
Mobuco and Van de Panne were a lot less particular with the standards required.

Long time no speak.

It's been a year and I am no longer with KML for various reasons. However, I remembered having this account on these forums. I must see if I can change the name or make a new account.

A team was sent out last year for a trade test. But unfortunately they failed and not only did they not get the job but the company I was working for lost the contract. Onshore people were successful, however.

I am now working free-lance on behalf of various companies and agencies all over Europe.

It's that time of year again and I have some serious enquiries...

Looking for teams of offshore scaffolders. Holding advanced cards. All offshore certs and Dutch experience.

Don't worry, i'm not going to ask for CV's and certs at this point. I'm looking for some honest feedback.

Money is tight for everyone and I only want to act on these enquiries if I can keep all parties happy.

I would be looking at paying around £1600 per week or £3200.00 per trip (2 week rota). This would be net (after tax)
At this point I am not sure if travel expenses would be available. But it's something that can be negotiated.

A trade test would be compulsory before going offshore.

I'm an honest man looking for some honest opinions. I still have many of your numbers and will of course contact people I have spoken with on here last year.. Before advertising for more..

I can send people out at this rate very quickly. But it is at the top end of what I could afford to pay at the moment.

Is this an acceptable offer or do I quit before I even look at this game again?

Good rate for 2 weeks is this for 168 hours per trip how long will the work last ??
will their be overtime rates ??
The tax system may be a stumbling block for some ??
Travel expenses must be upfront to get the right Scaffolders over
But all in all a good offer of work

Thanks for the reply mate.

Yes it will be based on 168 hours per trip. I will have to get back to you on the length. However, previous contracts have shown to be anywhere from 3 months to a full year. It depends on the men. If the clients like them then they will try to hold on for as long as possible. But a minimum contract length will be found out, for sure.

Sorry, i should of been clearer about the taxes. The tax system should benefit people as they will be on the books over here. So the net payment will mean that all of the persons taxes are still paid in the UK, not The Netherlands. No gaps.

I will work on the travel expenses too.

I have gone for it.

Anyone interested please send me a private message and il forward on details. Must have experience with Van Thiel and hold all up to date certs. Looking to get some gangs out on a test day very soon.

I went for the trades test directly for Harsco and passed it, it's a piece of p1ss  I'm in Dutch waters working with them as we speak. I have UK NVQ level3 tube and fitting, Dutch steigerpass, BOSIET, MIST, VCA, Layher course and portable fire extinguisher to cool my tools down  The offer you have laid on the table is serious matey to say the least. I will send a PM and forward CV etc. but I hope this isn't raising false hope as a lot of guys on here are choking on trips where decent money can be made. I look forward to your response KLM or sorry ex KLM but let it be known if it turns out to be a load of **** u will be named an shamed on this forum my friend. I wish you the best of luck in your new enterprise and hope you can employ some hard working British scaffs (including myself if money is what you say it is). It's make or break on the scaffolders forum.... Good luck

If its the trade test I'm thinking its an under-deck hanging scaffold to be erected with van thiel fittings and tube lock. I have a drawing in the house of the exact job you build. It's an easy enough job but the fittings are sh1t (trust me I work with them) if it would be helpfull to a fellow scaff :blink1: I would be happy to email a copy of the trade test drawing (godsend btw wish i had seen this before i went) I'm 99% sure it's the same test guys

Rick u sound like a right tool.all the gear no idea.

To come out with a remark like that u must be a proper pr1ck if u read my post I'm trying to help anyone that may pursue this. If u don't like wot u read then p1ss of to another thread. It's w@nks like u that ruin this forum with snide remarks. If u wanna take it further PM me, scaffs got better stuff to do than read ur drivel.

Rick who is running the show for harsco out there. Is there offshore hq still at Beverwijk?

Yeah Fred they still in Beverwijk. The project leader is Erik van Grivsen. They seem to have a lot of work on at the moment.

This is only my second trip for Harsco Fred so the only contact I have in the office is Erik aw an the guy who does the trades test called Robbie, black guy apparently been with Harsco 20years u might know him. Did u do a bit with SGB back in ur offshore days? Al ask the lads. All Dutch lads on here but all spot on. Apparently there is quite a few British guys working with them but the rest of them with agency's as you need an address in the Netherlands to go cards in. Luckily I have one I can use.

No mate it's 2 on an 2 off unfortunately. I get all my flights, accommodation and expenses paid as well as a very reasonable salary. Erik promised me all the good scaffs are kept working 12months of the year and most of the guys here long termers so definitely prospects. I didn't jus walk into it I have worked in the Netherlands for years and built up some very useful contacts that have kept me busy. I'm here for the duration the UK's fooked!

Hey rick, im on for Harsco/Van de Panne myself at the moment. You willl more than likely get paid through an agency called workwise. They a good outfit. Been out here for 2 years with yhem and never had any trouble. Try and get on the Seaway Heavy Lifting vessels. 4-5 week stints.

HSWT it a guy called John de Jjagar who is running it and his 2nd in command is a guy who I only know as Shark

Hey weaverbix I was lined up for seaway vessels was meant to go for a 5 week stint on Tuesday but unfortunately the plan changed so shuttling between satellites at present. Still trips a trip a suppose. They don't pay ur shuttling out here which is a bit sh1t sure u get £65 each time in UK sector?

Nice1 HSWT an weaverbix al no doubt bump in2 you in the near future
