I read with interest today about the near explosion on the ninian central platform . A serious methane gas leak went undetected for a considerable time , thus putting the platform at unbelievable risk (piper alpha all over again ).
This is what gets my goat up about health and safety , surely this is a H & S guys primary function , not walking about pulling guys for not being clipped on six inches of the deck . Or thinking up all sorts of unbelievable scenarios were an accident may happen thus making it almost impossible to carry out your job .
Yes I am having a bit of a gripe here but if someone breaks a finger it`s not nice but if over 100 bodies get blasted out of the water it`s a bloody disaster .
The north sea platforms are ageing and some of them are in a really bad state ,so get to the serious stuff and stop fannying about . Rant over :eek:

Well said scaffarobbo, couldn't agree more. Hope heads roll on the Ninian over that, it's been 10 years since I was last on one of these buckets but it seems during that time nothing has changed.

your 100% right to have a rant mate...health and safety is well over the top out in the north sea...i think it has been a case of better luck than judgement that one of these rust buckets aint gone up and killed a lot of lads..and like you say they are more interested in the fact you aint got ear plugs in, or going on about the amount of cards that are put in each trip rather than worrying about the real safety issue that will one day cost a lot of lives...

Non- Compliant Document

I have attempted to attach a Document that applies to the Integrity and Reliability of the aging Offshore Installations, it refers to Prohibition and Improvement Notices issued by the HSE. ( Hope it has up-loaded )

The forthcoming De-Commissioning Program will be the next Big Thing in the North Sea, it will require new Technologies and Systems of Work to deal with the Health and Hygiene Issues as well as Specialized Salvage Operations.

It was announced last week that the Brent,s are to be Decommissioned, however, the De-com Program has already started, N/W Hutton, etc.

As I have already mentioned in my previous post, how to deal with the decontamination and cleaning of the Top Side of these Installations are raising environmental concerns, as well as the Engineering Complexity of Salvaging Operations and the Method thereof.

Is any body working on De-com ?

garry how are ya , makes good reading mate , what you going to do next
