Just an idea and it might not work

Just asking.the biggest threat to our industry is the agency and I just wondered why even a tiny offer of looking into it by the sccr was not forthcoming.maybe this is an explanation of sorts?

Reading through the thread, its plain the sccr boys put a lot of time and effort
into a worthwhile cause,we can hav a say with our own trade. Dont know why they have to take snidey comments, when it will benefit all scaffs one day.
For this reason !!Ahm in
Im sure if it concerns scaffs concerns, which it does! The sccr will look into it.
I dont have paypal, can I send postal order for membership?

the umbrella system was mentioned on politics show last week , but it needs more exposure , if one scaff from every city in britain contacted his MP about this , maybe that would be a good start

It's the goverment that need to close the loopholes that allow these offshore umbrella tax avoidance companie's to exist, but they wont because half of them are run by ex mp's and other high powered tax dodger's,and you can bet that most of the current powerbase put their own earnings through these scheme's,thus feathering their own nests,so i would'nt hold your breath waiting for anything to change anytime soon, even though they reckon that the income from corperation tax is down 10% on this years annual return,so i think the sccr have'nt got a cat in hell's chance on this particular topic,it's akin to the isle of man(tax haven)taking on russia(tax corrupt mega state):(

Its a valid point, without all the histrionics. Has bothered me as self employed and having to recieve payment thru umbrella. The diifference for me,whilst working for my mate,he took care of all ex's so only had the normal 20% docked. This mate of mine has a few people working for him for years,so defo getting away with his true liabilities.

You are very badly informed & a bit thick!!

Why do people think the SCCR has loads of money!!!

Formed in 2010, not established yet but a group of us have made a lot of ground on issues we have been working on. I like the side swipe at the IW!! Suppose in a few months time when problems start being blamed on the IW you will ask why didn't anyone bring this issue up before. This is only one things we are working on.

The issue with the agencies is not the agencies fault, they are trying to make a living. The fault lies at the feet of the CISRS scheme which churns out wannabee scaffolders ten to a dozen who do not mind working for next to nothing & putting up s**t because they have not got a clue & the only experience is attending a scheme that does not fail people. They have no knowledge or pride in what they are doing. This is an issue we are working with the HSE who want to chair a meeting with the SCCR, NASC & CISRS.

As yet the last two mentioned will not attend, we have been offered a phone call!!

Why are there all these training centers?? What is the point?

When did we have a shortage of scaffolders?

In scaffolders terms boys get your facts right in the first place & stop being total ***** who have nothing better to do than follow each other like sheep with anal problems!!

I take it as a no on the help then
When did I say you had loads of money
And as I said I doubt a commitee with members who use agencies will want to rock the boat.anyway good luck

well done for even starting the SCCR Ragscaff , anything it does will surely be useful , good point about the training centres , these places rake it in with grants , and know theres an endless supply of workin class lads queing up to become scaffs

i was told a while ago the glasgow NCC has never been busier

One of the first issues the SCCR looked at was agencies.

Yes it needs looking at & yes regulation needs to be monitored but the problem lies with the card given out with little effort to prove experience & ability to do the job.

If you can make money by supplying 5 part 2's & 4 part 1s without knowing what they can do you would jump at it.

It is wrong.

A lot of companies are looking to pay through umbrella companies to do away with PAYE, yes thats wrong as well. Scaffs lose out.

Agencies keep down wages for experienced scaffs etc etc.

If our so called Industry body is happy with this issue they have manufactured then yes it will take a lot of work to change it. That is why we need to increase the membership, that is why we need to grow the committee, that is why we are working hard to make a difference.

This year has been slow progress, when you have to work long hours for s**t money time is limited as to what you can achive.

Its goes round in circles, s**t money, too many scaffs, no-one helping, poor rates, prices too cheap = s**t money. As you have seen on other threads the prices some firms go in at now is a joke!

A lot to be done.
