Good morning all. I am looking for some info on a compay called Phd access solutions. They advertised a job offfering £135 per day for advanced scaffs. They offered me the job and then said it is on a self employed basis. Anyone worked with these before?

Big firm , good firm based in middlesex work all over UK love system

I aint, but ive come close a few times... they did have a fair bit of work in London over at Kings Cross Trainstation, i believe or one of the other big Stations.

I spoke to the owner (which i was apparently lucky to, as hes usually out of country), when i sent my CV off about a year ago - called Bernie Dwyer.
Nice bloke to chat to, real polite and friendly... but in the end, i went else where for work and that was the last i heard from him.

Not sure what they are like, but from what ive been told, you can earn on there.

Nice one thanks. Any ideas on the self employed bit. I am moving over from Ireland and just wondering am I going to be fleeced with tax if i am self employed. I worked in the Uk a few years ago and spent a long time on emergancy tax but loved the place and was treated very well.

Not sure, if you dont give them a P45, whether you'll be on Emergency Tax... but if your going CIS - you should be straight on 20% and stay on 20% no matter how much you earn.

BetterTax are the ones to ask, they are spot on and very helpful.
They also sponsor the Forum, which is a plus. :)

They may pay you thru an umbrella company, you may need a cscs. Eddie You should call them for more info.

I am on hold with them now. Thanks. Also got offered a jod in Christchurch NZ but the money in very low $1000 nz dollars per week. Global visa are lokking for €6000 in fees. Have a contract from the firm which is legit. The owner rang me and was dead on. Have his details if anyone is interested. He did also say they have a lot of overtime and they asses you for three months to see will they increase the rate. He did say they are tied in with Global Visas. I think €6000 is mental when others companies can get you sorted for €750 euros.

A 3 month 'trial period' is the usual thing here now...
I hope the job goes well mate.

Thanks. Hpefully I can sort the tax then I can polish up my spanner.

I know and the more I questioned it the less friendly they were. I rang some other visa companies and they were wondering what it was for. The owner of the scaffolding company was dead on but when I mentioned the fees to him and about using a different company I got no reply. Just putting it out there. Things are hard enough for eneryone without some fella getting a fat wallet on our backs for pushing a bit of paper.

thats rip of eddie,i got offered job in NZ few wks ago, money to low though, but i keep in touch for when money goes up,they never asked me for 6000euros.and a 1000 a wk thats crap

Hopefully anything has to be better than the third world conditions here. Thanks for all the advise. Def going to pass on New Zealand. 14 years on a decent wage is not too much to expect.

Heard of a few visa scams running in OZ that were using those same sorts of figures but they were trying to trap Agricultural workers. Maybe they got rumbled and moved on?
