I remember there used to be lads done this on a price basis in the early 80s , they would erect the lift then load it out , i worked with a lad used to do it , he was not a great scaffolder but he was one fit fu cker who used to run everywhere , said him and his mate made decent money at it .

Lots of brickies erect their own internals out of Haki, but are only compitent to erect 1-2 lifts. They need a scaffolders ticket to erect higher in stairwells etc so it can pay to have a fully qualified scaffolder on the team. This also explians why large bricklaying companies own small scaffolding operations.

Wasnt this how it all began. Carpenters knocked up scaffolds before the advent of steel and made coffins in their spare time.Hoddies later on knocked up scaffolds for the brickies with the old podger ended spanner. Thats progress!!

I recently worked for the scaffolding department of a Brickwork company. The brickies estimator priced internal scaffolding to be erected by the brickies in haki at £2.50 per metre lift run. The scaffold dept could never make money in a joint venture with the brickies due to the low rates quoted in the brickies package.

Pretty common for many industrial service companies to price the scaffold for next to nothing and let the insulation or painting cream it. Will be much the same for a brickwork company. Joint ventures for a scaffold company are a minefield.
