I bought a dozen of the drop brake type but noone likes using them

what's wrong with wrapping the rope round a butt and a pair of welding gloves or an old sweatshirt, best brake ever. Back in 2001 we did golden lane for benchmark, they had a capstan which was just like a car wheel, constantly turning. it bolted to the tube and you wrapped the rope round it and it pulled all your gear up for with the only effort being tying the stuff on. never seen one before or since.

the amount of times i have thourght to my self get the pick up jacked up and get it in gear lol if i had my way it would of been tired b4 now lol nothign ventured nothign gained lol
 
Had a PTO Unit fitted to one of my old series 3 landie once, worked a treat, no sh!t...
 
have any of yas seen deadliest catch and when they throw the rope over to catch the float the then wrapp it orund that wheel and it pulls it in be no diffrent would it
 
More than a few fishermen have lost limbs and lives using these things marra.
