Hello, we are a fairly new employment agency that supplies to the construction industry in Guernsey. I myself have laboured in scaffolding for approx 2 years and a very good friend of mine has his own firm.

We are going to be asking all the local firms whether short term scaffs would come in handy in the near future.

We have a website with an application page if anyone feels like they would like this opportunity, if it happens.

Work for Labour Force Guernsey

CISRS Part Two card needed and clean record, if things moved ahead we would want a police check.

It seems to me that locally there isnt enough good scaffolders to go round and something may well come of this.

guernsey webbed feet and sheep shagging

Like I said, hopefully I get some serious responses then rate negotiations can start. There is already one of our largest firms very interested. It could be that a few lads are taken on for only a short period but for reasonable rates the other firms will jump on board and the work will roll on.

A friend of mine who regularly gets let down by his own lads has even mentioned not employing at all and just hiring in.

Plenty of worse places to work than Guernsey. Loads of pubs, top restaurants and sandy beaches.

cant see many scaffs with a clean record:amazed:

Well, to be honest, we havent been asked for record checks but are trying to make this work. The first few lads would have to be reliable and keep their noses clean otherwise we will just be laughed at and left with men who have no work because of their conduct.

If, on the other hand we put a good show on, it could turn out to be regular work.

i have grade 2, confined space, ccnsg card first aid four day course and just received my disclosure scotland . many thanks if needed pm me thanks again

It wont happen over night but I need people to email labour@cwsgy.net with their experience, age and what they would work for. Bearing in mind you pay for acomodation. Its a matter of finding interested workers, then nogotiating rates between them and the hirers. I know that previous agencies from the UK who have supplied Guernsey have been paid moe than im asking for. Hopefully a reasonable rate will get more regular work among pur other firms.

I have seen emails from scaffs but like I say, ill be sorting through things over the weekend.

As I remember Guernsey is an expensive place to live and work, with accomadation at a premium, more so during the summer season.

Do I read it correctly, that you will be undercutting the UK agencies.does this mean that you will be taking a cut in your margins.Or will the rates you offer to scaffolders be less than mainland rates

Well I was told by the firm who hired that the guys from the agency wereon peanuts.Im certainly not thinking of offering a low wage. Something that is worth working for. We make money on numbers of men at reasonable rates.

What are your projections on the total number of scaffolders you will require to service your clients requiements

How much scaffolding work is there on a relatively small Island such as Guernsey

Could you advise on the cost of accomadation, bed and breakfast or renting a house or apartment

Well on an island of only 25 square meters we have a population of over 65,000. There is currently enough work for 7 seperate scaffold firms and 2 have over 6 trucks. They all complain of not having a big enough pool of ticketed, skilled, reliable men. Theres plenty of work on this small island. Its a very wealthy island thats run on the finance industry. We are about to spend over 85 million on our airport runway within the next year to accomodate bigger planes for direct flights to other finance hubs.

As for numbers of men. Over the next week, ill contact the responses and work from there. I have been asked to present the details with rates.

25 square metres and 65000 people!!!

Now that's what I call overcrowding
