How did you come across this contract?
How comes your boss dont just employ a shiit load of men and hire extra tube and stuff and crack the whole lot out himself?

would say its the godiva group! done a couple for them but started pushing the price down so gave them a wide berth! wouldnt have minded doing them a bit cheap but they wanted 30 day account which turned into 60 days!

my boss asked me to help him find some more firms and ud have to ask him that maybe its becuz of the logistics and this way if there is any problems with any of the scaffolds then there is a local firm on hand to resolve it

does it have to be a small firm?

no not really but as the jobs are only for solar panels would of thought it would,nt ov been a thing a major firm would of looked at

porter the price has to be surely right for every1 and how can they dictate the price its ur firm so its up to you weather its right or not for you

Thats a MASSIVE contract, tbh.
50,000 houses?

Tens of Millions of pounds worth of Scaffolding needed for that, maybe more.
Id have thought that even the biggest firms would want a bit of that action.

well recieved a call one day saying they had been let down by another firm on 2 jobs and could i arrange scaffolding to be erected next day! gave them a price from drawings sent by email and no problems! after that any job i priced for them they always wanted it reduced by an average of 20% then started saying they wanted pictures of scaffolding emailed beforepayment would be made!

Pictures?

How do they think the work was being done?
Rocket Packs or something..?

when you get emails like that you know any excuse to knock you and they will!

Sounds like mark group work or eaga

If so mark group use godiva for bulk of small works

We have been approached regarding a similar amount of PV units supposedly being installed in our area by a reputable PLC service company. My mate is one of the contracts managers on there, and he says getting this lot sorted out is a logistical nightmare, and that the authorities supposedly need these panels fitted in a certain amount of time before the grants run out.
He says that it is a physical impossibility as there are not enough men trained in the country to fit them all in time, even for a company their size, and that it is all a bit pie in the sky.
If they need any scaffolding companies in our area, or anywhere else, then if they look into the NASC register they should be able to get the right company who will do a good job.
Also a word of warning regarding some of the smaller companies who are jumping on the photo voltaic bandwagon. There are loads of them springing up all over the country, we work for quite a few, and some are extremely disorganised with ordering scaffolds on time, and forgetting to off hire them. My worry is that some of these smaller boys maybe out for a quick buck and scarper, so be careful with payments and make sure they are consistent payers if credit is given. I'm not knocking the PV industry or any certain company, it's work for us all, but I have had similar experiences over the last 30 yrs I have been in business with quick start companies , all good till the grants run out (which they will)and then again, the scaffolding company will be last to get paid, if at all.So just be careful lads, and don't put all your eggs in one basket.
