Blackfriars Bridge

When I was a manager for Palmers in 2003 ,Palmers as a group were stopped from using labour agencies. There were 2 reasons for this, firstly the official reason was that they were rubbish at that time, secondly the unofficial reason, one of their (Palmers) managers (who will remain nameless) owened one of the agencies and gave a good proportion of his depot's work to his agency, made a load of money , retired to Spain then left his son in charge ! sounds like Coronel Gadaffi.

In the current economic climate with some of the bigger firm trying to re-establish themselves ( Interserve) its not in their intrest to carry a large number PAYE employees in case they run out of work, not withstanding the fact that people are reluctant to leave a reliable job and take a chance on a new firm.

Agencies are far more flexible and seem to have gotten their acts together now.

When Palmers employed them they really were worse than having no one on site at all, it was that bad. I remember asking a particular "Grade A" agency lad who we were being charged £140 a day for, to cut off a tube fouling a ladder access. He tried cutting though it with a handsaw his mate had just used to cut a board !!!!

I fail to see where there getting there acts together as you say, perhaps you have not seen the money some of these clowns have been offering.

There are a couple of decent ones out there round our way, they send copies of the lads CISRS cards for you to check and if your not happy with the service you don't have to pay. Seems pretty fair to me

Of course I am seeing it through an employers eyes, I haven't got a clue what agencys are like to work for and I think thats where your coming from Oldscaff ,If I've read your response correctly.

this subject of agencies being useless, not paying , and how all the scaffs should boycott them and start their own is becoming tedious and boring the fcuking life out of me , its been rumbling on for ever an a fcukin day and so far not fcukin one of you has actually got off your fat hairy touches gone out there and done fcuk all about it.

So Actions are louder than words people so go do summit about it or shut the fcuk up, I got a bad head ok

Well I think your talking crap agys should be ruled out altogether
More flexible my arse more like hey let's see if we can shaft them up the arse just that little bit more !
Our trade was one not to reckon with not that long ago we was the highest payed out of all trades nobody said boo to us cos they knew what would happen. Now look at our trade because of useless ***** with no clue took over. And fucked our trade even the union isn't worth a dam now....
And now we get walked all over!!!!

Midge do you think this is down to agencies or the "I'm all right Jack f.uck you" attitude of so many of the scaffolders these days? Have we brought it on ourselves?

Well I blame the agys being greedy ******** !!!!!
If they paid us well maybe we would wonna work for them !!!

Agencies pay a higher hourly rate than the local companies in my area.
But obviously you are not guaranteed regular work and you don't get bank holidays etc.
It's all swings and roundabouts.
Last blue book job I was on had to go through an agency, 20% tax and lodge paid, much better off than the boys on the books.

Flexible is the new buzz word now, We might need you today, but not tomorrow, so be flexible and don't complain, come when we whistle, hardly an improvement from Dickens time.

Were not scaffolders to the agys were dogs they WHISTLE WE ARE MENT COME RUNNING
WELL **** YOU IM NOT A DOG !!!!!!!

So what do you do?

Do you work regular for s.hit money or just grab the highest wage as it comes up?

You'll still get laid off if your company has no work.

Most of us save when were on the good jobs gives us chance to be a bit picky
My friend has worked for a agys for 2 years got fucket off by them....
They said no work now he's up **** street nothing to come bk off them
And he is like alot house family....
Do agys giv a toss they ripped every penny away from him!!!!!
That's why it needs stopping or things put in place.....

How much do you think an agency makes per hour from one man in South Wales working on a new build housing site? (where I was last week)

I woulnt like to say swifty but as long as they making moneythats all the care about
I don't really work on the streets I'm more power stations and refineries I no a station the agys is making £10 to £15 ph each man they have on there....
But when the agys is on a blue book site they have to pay the same rates but no holiday pay travel etc.

Kristian 'SUPER SCAFF' Midgely (yeah right)
