Apprentice Scaffolder

In 1964 the apprentice/labourer scaffolding rate was £0.18 pence per hour or £7.20 per week, and seeing that an apprentice bricklayer, plumber or joiner was on around £3.00 per week i felt like a millionaire

In 1964 you could buy a house for £3!!

Aye but it was a single end in the gorbals with a shared outside toilet shared with 10 other families, but the good thing is the seat was never cold.

your having a giggle after 2 years should be on at least £80 a day if ya aint got then know by then you aint in the right job

I don't believe that for a minute Danny. Sorry, I accept it's all in the everyday training the firm gives as well but after 2 years most are still wet behind the ears.

how old are you danny? Less than 25?
Real scaffs didnt get off the ground for the first 2 unless it was to put all the toppers on for the old crusts up a hieght,
mind you that was when scaffs were scaffs not wannabe big boys with a belt on after 2 weeeks,
after 2 years you know sweet fa.
Just my opinion;)

Fair Points, We've got a lad on our firm thats been doing it for over 10 years and he dont know, Or do feck all.
Got a few younger lads that know a bit after a year or so, But far from being a scaffolder!

I want to learn the scaffolding trade but I have a family to support how can I do that on less than minimum wage. Ridiculous

Unfortunately, its shiite, but now - in todays climate might not be the best time to try to learn a trade from scratch mate.

I agree times are hard at the mo and I'm sure that it'll get worse before it gets better but if I don't try I wouldn't achieve anything in life plus there's a lot of work in Birmingham that hopefully I can start my training.

Well i cant fault your drive and determination to do it.
I wish you good luck and all the best mate.
