Can you use mobile phones offshore av been told it depends on what rig your on.

That's Sky TV
In the Norwegian sector you can get a signal ,but you are no longer allowed to take your mobile offshore ,and waste lots of money on meaningless phone calls to your mates .

I used to get a phone signal in the Australian outback. A lot more remote than the North Sea.
You used to lose the signal halfway between Dover and Calais though its only about 15 miles or so across.
I can understand them not wanting phones offshore because of the cameras and the ignition source.

Sailed across got great reception

Sailed down the English Channel yesterday and got a great signal from Vodaphone!
Before they went from analoge to digital I have used a big old fashioned mobile about 25 mile offshore

Ahh but were you right in the middle? There used to be a dead area where you lost the UK signals before picking up the French one. Mind you last time I made that trip was 2001.

have you got a start like john?
has any herd from cape yet

Don't do my survival til next week. Was just wondering that's all it's a bit pointless having a contract phone for 2 weeks a month!
