Just a quick question chaps.
Heard that wind turbines use scaffolding at some point or other during putting them up.
Does anyone know how or who has the contracts for them?

Cheers...

mate they dont use it. on sea its cranes on land its cranes.i have seen it done
cheers pj

Er yes they do. I got pals at IOT that were involved in the erection of the wind turbines off the Thanet coast. They most definitely do use it. For what I don't know though.

they do use it im contracted to ormonde offshore wind turbines on the genarater rig on and offshore or and areva but not on all the time as they use sea cats to take u out so its dependant on sea state they wornt go out if the tide has a 2m swell on but gud money

its probably used for protection whilst the wings are in storage on the ground so they dont get damaged

ive built scaffold on the wind farms at sea, they build round the areas they want colour protective paint on the lower half .
the last time i was involved was on land before they were erected we built around the same area on the mast bu ti cant say if they do now that was about 8 years ago.

They have put loads of the f**king things up where I live, over 300ft tall not one tiny bit of scaffolding whatsoever:mad::mad::mad:

Got to be honest Swifty same here, I have worked on wind farm sites and factories but never once put scaffold round a turbine. Either things have moved on or there are different types/methods but from what I see it's all cranes and cherry pickers. In saying that, I've never seen them erect the off shore stuff.

Cherry pickers up this way for painting, the window cleaner bought himself about 250k truck mounted one and a rough terrain one for power washing them.

I am starting a project monday 3/14 at 9 canyon wind farm. We are to build 26 towers 28 jumps tall (about 200 ft.) Each will have a stair tower and it is for weld inspection/repair. So they definately do use scaff but this is the first time I have seen it.

it was Apollo, they were looking for men to start around christmas time...a few of us went up for interview's and got the job. and a few lads had already got the start and got paid off again. at the moment still waiting on a start date...some sort of f""k up with the cables has delayed the starting dates..
but it aint scaffolding , its erecting cradle jibs and winches to pull the cables up from the sea bed..if i do get to go out am looking forward to the change in work..
