Solar Panel Work

Most roofs we are on are fine but the odd dodgy greasy steep one we just use the roof ladder. No doubt the elf and safety boffins will be on to tell me something why we shouldn't but it gets every one on and off the roof without ripping the slates up.

Some of the roofs we've striped before we had to put the handrails up the panels have come about 18 inches from the edge of the roofs

Seen a few like that round here but they don't usually bother with scaffold at all. Some of these outside firms think that because they are working in the sticks the laws don't apply, but there were at least 2 got a shock last week as the hse turned up and slapped them with a prohibition. They weren't solar firms but their time will come.

Has anyone had a problem when it comes to take the handrail down when stripping the job. Some A-hole has put some solar panels right in the way and so tight to the edges that it is near on immpossible to get up the roof.

what we are doing for kiers in the north east, is putting a wheel on the end of the handrail standard, that way, in theory you dont have to get on the roof to strip it, once you loosen your swivels on the independent scaffold, you then slide it down the roof as a whole section ( alluminium tube ) its a bit hairy cos one slip and the brand new solar panels are kaput

Can see your point with the wheel but how do u tie the top of the rail in

We were offered some of the Kiers projects in the North East as they havent got enough Kier approved scaffold contractors, we declined as we are pulled out with it down in our patch however the said they had to have 1800 units done before 9th December, thats some fooking going!! There must be scaffod flying all over the place in the North East!! lol

we went slow with them now we are flat out with it just got to keep on top of the invoiceing went down 1 road we was working on and there was 6 firms down there and about 9 wagons have not seen anything like it for a long time lol
