In my Opinion good relations and communication are essential, talk to your nieghbour as soon as poss even if your not starting for ages yet at least he knows whats coming, towinkey is spot on aswell, flowers, bottle of wine, chocolates or even cook or pay for a nice meal as a please/ thank you gesture to show appreciation if he co operates , also like philli says make sure a reliable fully insured scaffold company is used .

Just get a scaffolding contractor to come and see the job. Tell him what you want and about that c**t of a neighbour you have. They will easily sort out that job out for ya.

It's a got gantry rit all over it and with a gantry you don't need a design as working lift is no more than five boards,no beams involved,no drawing,less cost.before we had Ali beams this probably would be your first choice .
