No, just feed the whole belt through the carabina. Only thing I have on it is the shifter.
 
I got my belt (old BT belt for climbing poles) when I started at 19. I'm coming up 49 now, used it every working day. The rivets have got a lot smoother and the tail a lot shorter but it still reaches round me (just).
 
Ah I just missed out on that competition, don't even remember it. Damn I've been on this forum a long time...
