Scaffolders for London 5 weeks - tomorrow start

I always thought that the idea of the card system is to prove the holder's competence.

As we all know it doesn't, you cannot compare an advanced scaff working on local housing sites to a time served (preferably well travelled) part 1, part 2 or ECITB that has a variety of experience in different aspects of scaffolding.

I have seen on my travels and locally, tossers with all the cards and the full backing of their management that makes you wonder who the f.uck gave these pr1cks the job.

Education and experience is the answer not something for getting the ice off your windscreen.

The education is on this forum and the experience is out there, you are never ever too old to learn and even the part 1's can teach you the odd snippet now and then.

I have had my advanced CISRS for quite a few years because luckily I was working for the right firm at the right time.

lol am sure theres a fair percentage of advances who are capable,or more than capable but as you say theres the ones who are not up to the position but thats up to the employers why do they employ them???im pretty sure its just to have that gold card on their books no matter the apptitude level of the operative in question.

I would also like to add the best gang of scaffolders (in my opinion)I have ever met all had gold cards.

Its the client that wants gold cards,
We were once doing a bridge near kirby stephen in cumbria which was erected by a couple of squads that were mostly advanced, however when the job was to be stripped i didnt have any adv scaffs to do it, so i sent 6 others (more than capable) 4 part 2's 1 part 1 and an excellent labourer, while i was on the way there the client got on the phone and said his safety man had stopped the job until atleast one adv scaff was on the job and not just supervising as you couldnt give the correct advise from up above, (sh1te)
when i got there i had to put the spanners on and get on with it or i would have had six men standing there doing sweet FA.
So it all boils down to what THEY want and not how good you are.

PS. i am with you Swifty i have met lots of good and bad scaffs with all sorts of cards, but the best i have had the pleasure to work with and also too manage was an advanced scaff, genius.

so you are a part 2 midge, your full of ****, you said you was a advanced and your a throw back, plus your bird is a big fat minger. the scouse you met at enfield is gonna **** you up!

hi everyone i think the card system matters and see it as a case of what do you want to acheive. I have put myself through part 2 and advance because i know you are guarenteed a start with a gold card. where as all of these unfinished part 2 tickets are still on a traniee card for (what ever reason) hence no finished ticket no top dollar which means "you only hold yourself back" .

dont matter what ticket you hold its what you know stevo no good haveing a gold one if you cant do the job as for top dollar its how you know mate not what ticket you have thats not a dig at you but this is how it is stevo!!!!

dicos correct fck the tickets..............when we get to the top we then find out whos worth his wage knowledge and know how lad no substitute for this,we all know guys who have put emselves through all sorts of courses and arnt capable of kicking an independant off,its the man not the colour of his plastic that gets the job done, good luck lad.

i love using the card to my advantage . anything goes wrong it was the advanced fault , job goes to slow advanced fault . i get us all kicked off site advanced fault . keep passing gear and taking the blame
