Scaffold Ties.

Just for the future tony if you have trouble getting bite on the bolt or cant pull test due to brickwork being crumbly or bad hilti do a drop in sleeve and chem tie called hilti-hit plus that allows you use your ring bolts or if you prefer your new ties- normal threaded bolts.
 
Reminds me of years ago on WGK we struck a tower block and all the ties where resin ,
The lads must have put the rings in when the resin was still wet because some of the rings had to be grinderd of
 
I'm doin a job @ the mo phil & have to change all the ties to resin as the bw is so bad- costing a fortune
 
Phil that was with the using excaliber bolts securing band & plates as thats what the design showed but they just kept failing the testpulls.

Alan the bw is nearly 200 years old & quite brittel to the drill even the morter is really old lime & tbh kneeds repointing, i tried with M12 excalliber bolts & although have got a few in i'm not sure theyd pass a pull lol. So tried reusable rubber expanding inserts & rings with better results.but have started using hilti M16 x 120 dropin anchors secured with hilti- hit plus & M16x25 threaded bars securing band& plates & am getting 6+kn on a pull with no fails but just to be sure am gonna put a 6m x 5mx 4 lift butress on each ele as well -
 
The buttress sounds like it may be the way to go, if the bw is a bad as you say you may get a good local test on the tie but the wall may fail in structure!
 
My thoughts exactly alan - thats why im playing it safe, unfortunitly my designers out of the country for 3 weeks & i cant wait around, onwards & upwards as they say lol
 
Sp, Could You Not Use The Appollo Tie, Its Basically A Big Rawlplug.
 
I think it is not the anchor choice here that is the difficulty but the substrate to which the anchor is applied.

If the brick work is crumbling even if you find a suitable anchor for the substrate type the surrounding substrate is susceptible to failure leaving you with a very nice anchor and an intact brick upon it, but a big hole in you wall.
